Right, i want to fit crash bungs too my CBR 600 steel frame, and im being quoted around 70-80 quid to have two holes drilled in the fairing, on top of the 50 quid for the bungs. Call me old fashioned but that kinda ruins the point of having them.

Can anyone tell me some tips on how to line up the holes in the fairing with the mount, how to drill it neatly and completely on target, and what tools are needed?

Remove the fairings and undo the engine bolt. Pull the engine bolt out so its sticking out in the way of the fairing and put some tipex on the end of it, keeping it there put the fairing back in place and you've now got a tipex marking on the back of your fairing where the hole needs to be drilled.

Start by drilling a small pilot hole and once you're sure its in the correct place use a bigger drill bit, drill it neatly by being smooth and you can sand the edges down after you've finished to make it neater if you want.

What tools, some tippex, tools to remove fairing and engine bolt, small drill bit for drilling pilot hole and a 25mm for drilling the actual full size hole.

There are instructions on the R&G Racing website which will be pretty much the same for all mushrooms which mount like that. Thumbs Up

Cool. What about making sure the fairing is aligned correctly with the bolt when putting it back on to mark it? Surely if its angled slightly it will go pete tong?

I spose with two and a half cms to play with theres a lot of margin of error for the pilot hole.

Thanks for the advice anyway mate Thumbs Up

Thanks for the link ste

Quote:
Remove fairing
Undo front engine bolt and remove
Insert R&G bolt in from engine side out
Using white paint or tipex paint end of bolt, fit to fairing
Push bolt up to fairing so white paint marks inside of fairing
Remove fairing
Pilot drill hole (back (inside) to front (outside) of fairing)
Fit fairing, make sure pilot in centre of bolt
Remove panel and drill 25 mm diameter hole (tank cutter is best)
Remove bolt
Fit fairing
Put bolt through bobbin through hole and onto frame
Fit nut to back of bolt and tighten

As you put the fairing panel back on it will push the engine bolt back in, just be reasonably neat when starting to push the fairing on the engine bolt. And when you drill the pilot hole you can start to see if you're in the right place so correct where you drill if needed.

The drilling is behind the crash mushroom anyway. Razz
