VFR400 Reg/rec unit

You could buy one from a breaker that is still in good enough condition as that can be a good alternative ;

Very good people all products come with a 1 year warrantee, have had a VFR400 and a ZZR600 from them both have been heavy duty units and came with big heatsinks on them.

i would buy the oe part as the have changed it so that they dont over heat any more.

OK. I bought a unit from www.electrexworld.co.uk . However, after fitting it, it hasn't worked.

Before I fitted it, I took it to Honda Tippets and the guy there put a voltmeter on it and told me it was the reg/rec. What was happening was that the bike would just about keep charge in the battery, but when the lights were turned on (how I usually like to ride) the voltage would start dropping. So if I rode round for a while with the lights on, after stopping it would try to start but the charge would drop and the starting motor would just grind to a halt. Apart from that everything else was ok.

After fitting the new reg/rec unit, the indicators flash quickly, when the lights are on they flicker with different brightness and the bike still won't start. At first the starting motor made a buzzing sound, but didn't attempt to turn. Now pressing the start button results in absolutely nothing happening.

I really don't know what to do now. Any help appreciated.

sounds like your battery is flat as there is not enought current reaching the starter motor, and the dimmimg and brighting of the headlight is a sign that the battery is being charged by the alt/reg charging system.


have you tryed a different battrey?

New battery. I've heard people using any Honda R/R unit in the VFR, the CBR one works, think the R6/R1 does also.

Yeah, you're right, thanks guys. After a good charge everything worked fine, however after riding it for a couple of weeks the battery appears to be knackered.

Any recommendations on what replacement to get?
