PostPosted: 01:03 - 01 Apr 2005    Post subject: Part exchanging..... need advice Reply with quote

As you might have read in my other post, am getting a new bike hopefully this weekend... I planned on part exchanging my current bike for the new one, and I explained to them what bike it was and what condition it is in....
The piccy is a couple of years old and have since had a Viper can added and the bolt kit removed.. its not in as spangly condition but it isn't far off...
17,000 miles
T Reg
new rear tyre
new chain
no scratches or marks..
SOME service history... until a suzuki approved place closed down nearby.. but have receipts for services done by other places.

the shop told me they would tkae it Part Ex for £1300 toward the ZX6R and I can't help feel that thats a bit low as its in great condition and have worked hard in keeping it like that..
any thoughts on whether they are having me on? or is this standard kinda price to expect?

£1300 could be reasonable if they are not charging the earth for your new bike.

You just have to decide if you can deal with the hassle and uncertianty of selling privatley, px is nice and easy, hence you will always lose a few ££

I put my Punto on the Autotrader website, and it was gone in 2 hours. The ad cost £15 for two weeks. Recommend it and selling privatley. You'll get loads more money, man. Part exchanging might seem an easy option, especially if you haven't sold privatley before, but there's nothing to it. Otherwise you could miss out on hundreads. Part exchange for my Punto was £500, sold it private for £800. It's all about the readies, it's better in your pocket than theirs!

the new ZX6R is gonna cost me £7000 so yeah, pretty expensive..

I originally paid £2999 for the Bandit from a dealer so I paid a bit more than I needed to anyway... I guess its convenience and a bit of laziness on my part to go part ex.

I've been keeping a rather close eye on bandit values on ebay recently. That should fetch between £1500 and £1700 depending how good your advert is. I'd be inclined to offer it on an auction starting at £1200 with a £1700 buy it now, and a proper full ad.

That might be a bit stingy then, but consider the list on a 6r is £7845.

Would you be happier paying full list for the bike and them giving you £2100 for the bandit??!!!

You would definatley make more selling privatley, and the Bandit is an easy bike to sell providing it is not loaded with tat and in good condtion. But will you be wheeling the new kwak out tomorrow if you don't trade? Decisions decisions!

yeah...
just spent a long time giving it a good scrub... and realising if I added up the man hours I have spent cleaning and polishing it is it worth the price they are offering? the whole reason I spent so long polishing is not only for the health of the bike but so that I lose as little money as poss when I come to sell it.
its a tough one.. and it will delay me getting the new one for a while if I choose private... then if I do sell then I risk the grief of time wasters and hagglers which I know I won't be in the mood for. Thumbs Down

I might stick it on ebay tomorrow and see what price I get..
or another option is to say to the salesman that instead of going for the second hand ZX6R (still the 05 version but with 800 miles on the clock) will go for the brand new only if they give me at least £1500 notes for the Bandit... I personally think the bandit is worth about £1700

have spent the last few days getting it back to how I originally got it... I have removed Dainese and Playstation 2 decals, bolt kit, alloy cover, and have replaced the rusted horn.... I might take some piccies in the morning and stick it on ebay and add the 'have the right to remove this sale as its being advertised elsewhere' line at the bottom of the sale Cool

The dealers offered you a price that he can make money on he doesn't want the hassle of selling it on unless he can make a profit.I work for a car sales company and a some of the time we give a discount for no part ex(try asking your bike dealer if he'll give one)If he kept the bike on the forecourt he'd have to put a warranty on it and have more expense so most part ex's are passed on cheaply to smaller dealers/traders.

omg i've turned into a realy boring git, anyone got a noose. Evil or Very Mad

good advice...
I heard the black is more sought after...
just been out T-Cutting it at 10:30 at night.. the neighbours gave me a knowing glance as if to say 'you at it again?' Cool
they must think I have no life to resort to that on a Friday night!
I will go to the dealer... wave the bike under his nose.. see what he says after seeing it in the flesh, as he based £1300 on what I told him about it and not what it looks like now..
