For those kind of funds, you could get an older rs125 (older rs's look better than older mito's in my opinion) but you might want to question it's reliability.

What do you want from the bike and how much for the insurance can you afford?

For £1,300. Thinking

An MZ125, a second MZ125 for spare, 12 months insurance for the same, road tax, two months worth of fuel, a new helmet and a gallon of half decent 2-stroke oil.

The sense of smug self-satisfaction is included free.

Hi

An older Mito or RS might well be OK, but you need to be sure to buy one that has been looked after well (and most have not) and also be prepared to do some work yourself (they are not low maintenance machines, and paying a dealer to do all that work would get expensive).

If you just want to get through your test then a CG125 is cheap and easy. Not exactly quick, stylish or sporty though.

I would be tempted to go for an older sports 125. NS125R, early NS, Aprilia AF1 Futura or Sintesi, Mito or TZR125. Maybe even the late RG125 (but they are quite rare). The NS and the TZR are kick start only (the Italian market TZR has an electric start but they are not that common or easy to find in good condition).

The older bikes will be difficult to find in good condition these days so I would not look for an MBX125, AR125 or the original RG125 as the chances of finding a good one are slim, and the are outclassed by the later bikes.

All the best

Keith

You could probably buy a mid to late 90's sports 125 for that, all of which have been already listed. Just take your time and find a good 'un though as most have been neglected thrashed and not been properly looked after by a long list of spotty 17 year olds.
