Don't just rely on the route planner make sure you still have a map.

The step-by-step intructions are useful and easy to follow, although i have only ever used them in car (presuming your using it on a bike)

i would look at the RAC routeplanner aswell as i have heard that it is more accurate.

https://rp.rac.co.uk/routeplanner

It gives you the road type aswell as the specific directions ect.

yeah ive used it good for the end of your journey if your getting to a specific place although the rest (in my expierence was rubbish) as works by trying to get you on the fastest roads all the time and therefore is almost always a quicker route so check in a map first!

I find they make simple journeys very complicated. If I'm going somewhere I don't know, I look at a map and get a good idea first, then just follow signs to the rough area. After that I ride in circles until I find the place. Not failed to get me anywhere yet.

I would use it, then simplify it yourself. What they put onto 2 pages of instructions could probably be fitted onto a few lines of which roads to follow.

AA Route planner is great, better than Multimap cause that don't tell you which roundabout exit to take!!

They've updated AA recently, makes it quicker and easier to understand. Though I wonder if some people boycott it after reading that article in MCN a few weeks back...

I don't trust it any more. It has taken me round some god-awfull routes in the past.

I was going up north this weekend and it wanted me to go through glasgow on the M8 then up loch lomond side. Now this is technically the shorter route but it takes no notice of the fact that the M8 at 6pm on a friday is to be avoided and the Loch Lomond road on a sunny weekend is nose-to-tail caravans.

I ignored it and planned my own route skirting round Glasgow rather than going through it.

It's good now and again. A mate told me to get to telford all i needed to do was get on this road and follow the signs for newport trhen telford, and it took me about 30mins. On the aa website it would have taken me about 50minutes!!

I use a map to plan my route, and then have a Multimap page of the area for the location I'm after.
