Fireblades owners?

Anyone on here on a Fireblade?

Just what to know what you think of them and what the bikes been like to own, ride, live with etc. Any glaring issues with them, servicing costs etc

I'm interested in the newer models, a 954RR if possible but also the 929R. Anything from 2000 onwards really as I'm looking into buying one nearer the end of the summer.

2nd 954, great bike. Always confidence inspiring in any weather and will handle anything you throw at it. They aren't known for anything going wrong and are fairly cheap to service. If I remember correctly my 2nd service was about £90 last time. Never paid over £120 but not had a 12000 miler yet. The only sort of recall on the 2002 version was an update to the steering, stronger shims or some such and was done for free by the dealer. It was due to a German magazine complaining that the bike could start to slap on some patches of road surface on the autobahn at over 120mph??

They are really easy and neutral to ride but deceptively fast so watch the license. Insurance can be a killer if you aren't the right age/area/ncb and tends to be a bit more than it's competition. As I said, great bike well worth the money and insurance that's why I'm on my second. (Although I've just traded it in)

My mate has a RR2 model, he thinks its great.
First thing I'd do Col is get a couple of insurance quotes before you even start thinking. No use dreaming about it for months then you find out that the insurance is too high.

Insurance quote thanks to H&R. £840 TPFT for a 2000 929R....

I'd pay that only being 25. I'm sure I could bring that down.


dainesefreak, is the 954 worth going for over the 929? Is there alot of changes or are the that subtle you don't really notice?

I've never owned a 929 so as far as I'm aware the 954 is an updated 929 with, IMO, better looking body work. The engine is more or less the same apart from a bigger bore and more horses. If I remember correctly I think Honda quote somewhere around 130hp for the 929 and 150hp for the 954 at the crank, but I stand to be corrected. The 954 engine is a real peach and when the revs rise over 6000 it's a very quick machine. The 954 is actually lighter that it's 600 counterpart at around 167kg dry, it's lighter than the 929 too so there's a good power to weight difference.

To be honest both bikes are a good buy and would basically come down to the deal/condition you get and preference on looks. I prefered the looks of the 954 compared to my mates 929, it just seemed right. Performance wise you would have to be shifting to notice the difference and it would really come down to the rider. The 954 would possibly be the quicker steering of the two due to the weight saving, at the time it's handling was quoted as being "Sublime".

Give Honda a go for insurance, I got a really good quote off them, Give them a ring though rather than use the online quote. I think that it's basically CIA that are behind the scheme even though they like to say Honda.

Mums Boyfriend owns one, talk to him quite a bit about it. He recently started it after having it sitting scince November, started 2nd press of the button. They are also notorious for their reliability, and if you get one of the older models they are quite cheap. If you really rip it you'll get a minimum of 80 miles out of a full tank, but if you drive sensibly you'll get around 160-180 miles from her. She also has brilliant handling and break neck acceleration and power. Never heard a bad word said about one!

How much of a trade in do you get for the new Blade? Got any pics of your old bike?

I'm thinking of waiting to winter time and trying to find a bargain then. Never tried Honda insurance but CIA gave me an amazing car quote was I was a young lad so I might give them a try

Got a 929rry sat in the garage. It looks very nice but until my pinky is fixed I cant tell you much more about it. I am sure there are plenty of long term Honda buffs around that can set you right.

EDIT: apart from it's cheaper to insure than my 03 R1 was

Not long to go now and I'll find out if I like it. I'm sure it will be fine. If not I'll sell it and get something else!

It's an 01, 9000 miles in near minty condition. Paid just over 4k, saw lots on autotrader for that sort of money and more, so I got it.

I paid £5500 for the bike over 18 months ago with only 1300 miles on the clock, it was mint even down to the knobblies on the tyres. It was £500 under book and at a Harley dealer who didn't know what to do with it, taken as part-ex. I was offered £4500 for px, Glass's say £4800 top book px, the dealer knows how much I originally paid too. In the end I got around £4900 with a bit of juggling the figures and some off the new bike. All in I've lost about £500 for 18 months use.

The 954 doesn't come with a damper, TBH I've never needed one, never even so much as had it shake it's head. I ride a lot of fast bump B roads too. Although there are a few that like to say it needs it and will always have a story but I can only go on what I've found.

As I said the Honda insurance is basically a front end for CIA, decent enough. I was with H&R before had who did a good job too.

i have the 954 it brillant fast light not bad on a long run.
paid £155 1200 mile service at honda dealer.
get about 100 miles res light comes on then can go 28 miles more
