Ok, this maybe just me but does anyone ever ride along a straight road, get to the end and think " i cant remember riding down there" i know at the time of riding you are in control, but sometimes, not drifting away or daydreaming, a sort of auto pilot kicks in. only done it a couple of times but still is it just me? should i stop riding now

I think all riders/drivers do this on roads they know very well (eg the route to work), I do it a lot. Don't like it though. |

Apparantly if you know a section of road so well you sort of switch off and your subconscious mind sort of kicks in and does it for you, hence sometimes you don't remember driving a section of road. Can't remember where I read that, in fact it might have been on this very forum. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. I do it all the time. I have even forgotten doing a journey entirely when I have been on night calls. I think my best was driving a 25 mile round trip, delivering a calf then going back to bed, only remembered about it when the farmer called in the next day to tell me the cow was doing fine.
You must be safe when you do it because you seem to 'wake up' immediatley if anything unexpected happens. Also the road I usually do it on is the sort that if you were not paying attention, you would be in a ditch. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Yeah I have done this a few times, especially when going a steady speed in one direction.
I once went to a party close to where I live, I had a TS50X at the time, I was 16. I got so drunk I was helped onto my bike by my mates (don’t ask I know what your thinking), I had to ride a few miles to my house down some country lanes, I remember getting to the end of the road and then nothing after that.
I woke up in my bed, my bike was in the garage!! ____________________ Cleverly disguised as a responsible adult.

Never done it on the bike, only in the car...
Usually I'm totally focused where I'm going and very conscious as to what I'm doing... ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

I do it occasionally on my way to work early in the morning, cos the roads are so quiet and I know the road like the back of my hand and if I wasn't riding it properly it would be the kind of road where you'd end up in a muddy field! |

I've done this a few times. Think most people will have.
I seem to remember reading or seeing somewhere that it was actually safer? Can't remember where. Something to do with the fact your brain knows the route so instinctively rides/drives it. However if a problem was to occur, like a BMW 3 series taking the corner on the wrong side of the road heading towards you , your brain would give you a bit of a 'kick' to, wake you back up I suppose, to handle the situation.
Think it was on something like Tomorrows World ages ago. ____________________ When A Man Loves A Chicken |

I do it quite often, I am alert and not drifting off or anything, just not needing to concentrate on what I'm doing, I just do it..
Find this sort of thing helps for wheelying and track riding and also motorways as you don't think about it, just do it!!
But often riding to/from work I just realise that I didn't concentrate on getting anywhere and just rode... It's like being in a world all of my own ____________________ Current Toys: 06 Yamaha WR250F | Nissan 350Z GT | Tech 4 Homes |
