Not impressed but...

My transalp after all its cdi problems (fixed now) let me down yesterday, while rideing in the rain it stopped dead, no reason, in the middle of a roundabout... after a minute it started again and carryed on, this has happened before but usually its only on one cylinder it dies..

Where should i start looking for this sort of fault? i'm assumeing a lead is old and knackered enough to let water in when its wet? are there any good ways of diognoseing electrical faults like this?

The other thing is the bike seems a bit gutless.. like it should be accelerateing harder than it does, pull the throttle back and it takes a bit for it to actually get going, mostly at higher revs.. could this be the vaccum line being in less than perfect condition?

Thanks for reading..

Cheap or worn out HT leads are dodgy when it rains or the air is very damp, I would certainly be looking at them if this problem only occurs in the bad weather Smile

Thought it could be, i found a pair at a local breakers, £20 for the front set, another for the back, but i doubt its the back as they are out of the weather (still going to check them) ... might be worth a go... going to have a look at the valve clearences tomorrow and see how far off they are, maybe that could account for the lack of grunt... also an air filter, will probably have to order one as nobody ever stocks this stuff Sad

Something else which is a contender... it has a weird rubber boot thing which blocks a large gap, for some reason it won't seat properly, tomorrow i'll have more access to try getitng it in properly but maybe that all it is! dont understand why it wouldn't quite fit properly though Question

update:

Tryed doing the tappets today, got two done before giveing up trying to get at the front one (without the right tools really) and running out of time... got two though Very Happy Rolling Eyes

While there I did checked for any obvious electrical problems, it all seemed fine, one thing i did find though, the ducting has a seperate piece going to one of the two carbs, the seperate piece is held on with pipe repair stuff (comes on a big roll and sticks to itself) i couldn't say how well its sealing and it could be letting in air/water where it shouldn't be when it rains = iffy running..?

Would bathroom sealant do a good job of blocking the gap? or is there something more suitable available?
