I had a bit of a spill on my bike today, coming onto a roundabout in the wet and the front end went completely under me Sad was only doing about 15-20mph as well, it hurt like a bi**ch as somehow my arm got under the handle bar and squashed Sad . Luckily enough the damage to the bike is so minimal from first impressions i'm going out ion mo have a good stripdown and look though. I came off ok as well considering.

It got me thinking though, as only one car stopped and that was after about 7 passed me, even the one behind me that nearly run me over drove off! typical!!! still the girl who did stop was lovely but i was more bothered about the bike than me!

but also it made me think about a thread someone put on here about crashing and how its vital to biking cos u learn ur limits. Well i found thats was crap in my experience today, it wasn't like i was banked over, or going fast at all, and if it happened again like that i probably would fall off again too, it was too fast to be able to react, i mean how do you stop a frontal slide in the wet when it comes outta nowhere? All i learnt today was crashing hurts and i was lucky i didn't get run over!

ewgh man, glad ur ok tho, and if ur bike has minimal damage aswell also a good thing! Seems like there must have been oil or something on the road which caused the slide... Obviously everyone learns from every fall, I know it's quite hard to control or circumvent this type of accident but when your out try and look for anything that might cause you to potentially fall... Anyway, don't think of this as if it's definately going to happen again and you can't control it, it won't get you nowhere Smile Get yourself sorted out and make sure no frame damage or fork damage has occured and get back on the bike and have fun!

Bummer Exclamation

I went round a corner in the wet when I came off.
I was doing slightly faster than you..hurts like hell eh ? Sad

Like you, about 10 cars went past...1 old bloke stopped..tried to get me to sit down..I rode off ! I was okay..just pride dented.
My bike was okay too..just superficial stuff.

You do learn your limits and your bikes limits too. You get to know what your bike cannot handle !

Think things through... did you brake on the corner ? Was there a drain cover, etc. on the road ?

You do learn from it...I did.

well this is the thing i know the roundabout i was on is awful in the wet so i always slow down accordingly, i wasn't breaking and i was only just starting to turn on it as i was taking the thrid exit. I've looked and seen where i slid and can't see anything there to make me but the road had dried up by time i got home. whats funny is the front went cos my back tyre is awful in the wet but the front had always remained very well planted. One those things i guess but yea lil prang like this not gonna put me off, just glad the bikes ok had just done a full service on it so know nothing was at a miss with that side things. ce'est la vie!

the front wheels of bikes slide out in the wet on roundabouts

and also on slighty greasy roads

people make out that it's all part of being a biker and you will learn by it which is all bollocks as you have found out

it's amazing how much shit gets thrown to the outside of a roundabout. Just have a look next time you walking past one. Diesel is also often found on them coz it gets threw to the side of the tank as lorries and what have you hammer round them.

As Zoffo says it was probably diesel. Unlucky, glad you are ok.

I don't know the exact circumstances but slower onto the roundabout and accelerate round? You are a lot less likley to loose the front end under power and more likley to get away with a rear-end slide if you land in a patch of diesel.

Good thinking, diving under the bike like that to avoid damaging it Wink Laughing

Unlucky, i know how you feel though as i binned mine yesterday.

Luckily i was off-road though.

Was riding on a field near me just going round in circles on the track doing about 50mph, got it to the last left hander and started turning in.

Then i hit a wet patch of grass while lent over and with the power down - Bike's rear end just slid out from under me.

No Damage to me (Apart from slightly bruised ego Razz) - The
only thing wrong with the bike was a slightly bent gear lever, which is now fixed.

I learnt my lesson though - Don't go off-roading at 6-30 am, until we start getting some sun in the morning to dry the F**king grass. Very Happy

(edit) Either that, or get some better knobblies Smile

Like it was said before, we are seeing a lot of this on the forum. Glad your alright Quik.

The reason I am worried about binning it is the money to repair the damage, if I come off my VFR I am not going to be able to replace the fairings am i?
Do the crash bungs really make the difference?

Killa Mate, the crash bungs work a treat my friend alex binned his bike twice whilst learning to get his kneedown the only damage was to the bungs and he has a 2 tone paintjob so if that went he'd be paying bucks. (Rides a CBR400 BTW)
