hi, got stopped this morning on my xlr 125 doing 42 in a 30 zone with a pillion. they said that because I only got my license on the 18th March, they will have to put the report to the procurater. Any advice on how to get minimum punishment, and what is likely to happen. Anyone got any good excuses?

also, forgot to say they put a P in my postcode instead of a B, even though they had my license to copy it from. They also put the model of my bike as an XL2 instead of an XLR, does this help in ANY way?

Won't trying to claim it wasn't you not going to work if you were stopped? Could work (well in theory at least Smile ) if you'd been caught by a camera but surely the cops who stopped you would just be able to confirm that it was you riding the bike who they stopped?

Not really got much to suggest other than go and practise your ass kissing as if you can look like you've learnt your lesson and being polite to them then you stand a better chance than if you're rude to them.

I would assume they have to write you up the same as a standard ticket, if they get the details wrong it gets thrown out. Wrong postcode and bike. Shocked

No, I was stopped, and they knew it was me, and they had my license. I was really polite and humble Shocked to them. I'm really hoping the mess up on the ticket might help me somehow, but i don't know. Has anyone else had anything similar and got away? How long does my probation last till I can get 12 points? 2 years or something?

That's what I've been trying to say. As far as I am aware it doesn't matter if the officer knows you personally they still have to write the ticket up. If they cock the ticket up then it's their fault and it becomes invalid.

We could really do with someone like T.C to clarify.

I was only saying the officer knew it was me because dainesefreak was suggesting saying it wasn't me on the bike, I don't know the officer personally though. Is putting KL2 instead of KLR and 2AP instead of 2AB enough of a cock up to invalidate the ticket?

They have made a big balls up you can get out of it by saying they put the wrong details and it wasnt you! My m8 got a parking ticket and they put the wrong colour of the car so he protested and got away with it!

If it's your first full licence then the limit is 6 points in 2 years.

This applies if you passed your car test as well in the last 2 years and it was your first full pass test to gain your full licence.

You will be playing a dangerous game if you try to get off saying it was not you. the officers who stopped you know it was and they have details of your licence. It will not make the ticket invalid. You may even want to contact the Court before you go to correct the details. They will appreciate this more than you trying to wriggle out of it, which may increase the penalty.

Writing a letter to the magistrate might be an idea?

Try to wriggle out of it and they will just say egardless of minor details, they know it was you and they know you were speeding.

Be honest, admit it, say your sorry you thought it was a 40 not a 30 and you should get off with 3 points and a bollocking

You should get something in the mail if they are going to prosecute you. If you got a ticket don't sign it. If it's wrong what are they going to do? It's got the wrong address, they can't send it to the wrong address.
Tickets by the way have to be correct.

Ok, let me try this one again leaving out the humor and metaphorics. Rolling Eyes

As Fortuna says and to my knowledge the tickets and paperwork have to be correct. They have had full chance to get it right, you provided your license for them to use and they were obviously able to see the vehicle. They have got it wrong, therefore they cannot say that you have tried to disguise your identity.

As I said earlier someone in the know like Scratchy or T.C would be better placed to offer advice.

If the worst comes to the worst and you get done for speeding only with no other charge then it should be a 3 pointer and £60. You will have another 3 points left to go for the remainder of your two years probationary period.

Good luck.

This isn't true if he gets three points he will only be able to get another 2 points for the rest of his 2 years, i know this cos it happened to me.

But apart from that you should get off through a technicality cos they got you details wrong, again this has happened to me aswell.

Isn't that also just admitting that you were riding without paying attention which if you've pissed them off enough would mean being done for riding without due care and attention? Confused

Once i got stopped with no insurance (First and last time i do that...) on an aprilia sr50.

The dumbarses wrote down it was an aprilla car.

I admitted everything and went off with just 6 points and nothing else.

I have it on good advice that if you get a lawyer or something then if the info is wrong then it gets thrown out.

wrong as in the police report

If your license is wrong then you might get slapped for that as well if it doesnt match your name or bike then i would advise getting some legal aid to see what the situation with that is. Just forgetting to change adress on the license is a criminal offense so i would imagine they wont look kindly on riding with an incorrect one.

However best of luck hope you dont get slapped for it. Thumbs Up

Just dont speed in 30s, anywhere else and you would have more leeway.
