Might be a rubbish idea but..
Mentioned it before but i'm actually considering it a bit more carefully.... allthough it might well not stop your bike being moved/put on a trailer, it would stop the bike going anywhere engine powered..
Thinking that a short extension on a/the cdi unit, then mounting it in a convenient place (such as under a side panel) so that it can be take off if thwe bike is being left or your feeling particuarly nervous of it takeing a walk that night..
Better than an immobilizer, there no way they will move the bike unless they just happen to have a spare cdi with them!
Is there anywhere that would sell the suitable connectors?
Is there an horribly obvious fault in my cunning plan? ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

Sounds like a good idea to me. All it does is stop them starting it without the appropriate CDI, but that's bound to be harder to get than getting around an immobiliser.
The idea reminds me of the old approach of taking off the alternator cap from cars to stop anyone driving away with them. The plan seems pretty flawless to me, if you can be arsed to keep removing and replacing it all the time.
Nice idea. ____________________ I must not be a troll...

im in the process of doing something like this to my NRG sprinter/scooter - as most immobilisers are a wire to the coil all theives kno that and just rip it straight off,
an alarm can just be smahshed in around 30 seconds,
and removing the HT lead is too obvious to todays clever theives
what 1 other thing totally stops me bike being started and is well hidden and not thought of as a possible way to stop the bike from firing up

Another possibility is to get some quick release, self sealing fuel hose linkages so you can remove a 6" length of the fuel line. They are used on racing machines to allow rapid fuel tank changes without fuel leaking everywhere.
M&P used to do them. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

You would think, but I have just had an object lesson on how good scheemies can be with bike wiring.
My MZ had a proper immobaliser fitted, all the ignition wiring removed and replaced with black cables routed through the immobaliser. The only thing the ignition switch does is power up the immobaliser and tell it to start looking for the chip. They still got it started somehow, must've taken hours. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen.
