(sorry if this has already been posted - didn't have time to check!)

A speed enforcement campaign for the M4 motorway in Wiltshire was launched today by Wiltshire & Swindon Safety Camera Partnership.

The partnership started enforcement at seven sites along the 53kms of the M4 motorway in Wiltshire. Stationed on motorway bridges the enforcement vehicles will target those motorists who significantly exceed the national speed limit on motorways and endanger not only their lives but those of other road users.

The criteria for mobile speed enforcement state that for each 1 km length of mobile enforcement site there must be a minimum of two injury collisions, which must involve either fatality or serious injury.

The Wiltshire & Swindon Safety Camera Partnership will be enforcing at seven sites along the Wiltshire stretch of the M4 motorway, all of which comply with the selection criteria for enforcement.

Over the past three years 12% of all Wiltshire's fatalities occurred on the short Wiltshire stretch of the M4 motorway. Figures for the year 2004 show a 24% increase in the number of casualties (this includes fatalities, serious injuries and slight injuries) when compared with those in 1999 on the Wiltshire section of the M4 motorway.
