I looked in the search, but couldn't find the thread.

Anyway, ultimately I know the answer is "test ride and make up your mind" - but any views welcomed.

I need to comute on it, but as long as it is bearable and not too crap at the comute job, I don't mind, as long as it will be fun.

I ride a fazer 6 1999 plate atm. Wanted to go bigger or big twin, but insurance is a killer for me as in a bad london post code.

Anyone got a view? I am looking to spend £2.5k by the way.

Cheers all

Luke

There's really nothing in it between the two.

You'll get a newer Kwak for your money though, as the CBRs hold their value better.

It's all in the looks.

Alternatively use the search function. Smile

I found the zx6 has a slight bit more of an 'edge' in handling and power delivery.

I would avoid the pre 99 CBR's (jelly mould style).

Another vote for ZX6R here.

I had a J1 for a while before a dry stone wall mangled it. Crying or Very sad

Very good allrounder.

I've ridden a couple of CBRs. (an '98 and a 2000) Not a massive amount of difference between the 2000 CBR and the ZXR really.

If you go for the ZX, make sure you get a green one. They go faster! Very Happy

I would go for the Kwak. I'm not a big fan of most CBRs (apart from the RR of course).

The CBR is a bit too much of an all rounder for me - the ZX6R is more focused - which I like Thumbs Up

I had the same dilemma. Chose the Kwacker. It was cheaper, better condition, and had more "Grrr...I'm a psycho" about it. Plus the air induction sounds lovely and is highly addictive.

Go for a J or newer model (2000 onwards). I have a 99 G but the look of the J is much nicer though only the nose is different (and the clocks) - everything else is pretty much the same.

If you go CBR, go for an FX or newer (99 onwards).

Either one, bound to be fun. I commute on mine 40ish miles a couple times a week. Not too painful but more so than your Fazer. Get a DB screen though, the one that comes with the ZX6 isn't very good if commuting.

Cheers for all your input dudes.

Just when I was slagging off my monthly subscription - "Oh great another review of what is the best sports 600 - its been ages since they've done one of those" - it turns out I need advice on it.

Does indeed look like the Kwak wins. £2.5K is my upper limit, and that kind of settles it really. It is quite tricky to get a CBR 99+ for any less than that with reasonable miles. Will get a better condition Kwak.

And I do so want to be a bad-ass. I am so not a bad-ass . . . but I will be with a Kwak and a pipe and maybe some Terminator Sun Glasses, some neon lights, small plate and furry dice.

You know that scene in BMX Bandits where Goose is stuck in a pit with Nicole Kidman and moves in for the smooch?

NK: Eerm (moves away) I'm sorry Goose

Goose: Ah, its TJ isn't it?

NK: Nooo, you're great, you're a really nice guy -

Goose: It's TJ

NK: But I you're really nice

Goose: Yeah, I don't wanna be nice. I wanna be sexy.

Goose is the CBR and TJ is the Kwak. CBR is my spiritual brother, Kwak is the anti-Christ. I still think the CBR is cool though.

go the honda!!! nah I'm kidding The ZX-6R is great and will ensure you smiles a plenty! cool design, good power sharp handling and great brakes make it a good value for money middle weight punter, the only down side I can see is long rides on straight roads, the vibes in the bars and pegs can make you feel like your fingers have seized up and your toes are melting it's weird Wink other than that it's more bike than many of us can use to it's limits Thumbs Up

Had the luck of riding bot, best mate has the Kwak and I have the CBR.

Im only a short arse but can manage both feet on the ground almost flat on my cbr, no where near on the kwak. The weight feels to be a bit high and and tends to lean slowly then quickly for me.

Kwak feels faster but when we are out theres no difference. The kwak does sound better, has a far louder induction roar.

Mines a 2000 his is a 1998 (or 1997 can't remember) but his has a better dash with some digital parts, a better seat, better under seat storage and looks far better in my opinion.

His has gave him far more trouble than mine, especialy considering mine has been abused all its life and his has been cotton-woolled but as far as I hear thats common for them. His valve clearances went at 11,000 miles whereas the reccomended first check for the cbr is 16,000. I guess the cbr will be cheaper to insure too.

either way good luck!
