I've been riding a Bandit 600 since passing DAS in Feb. I commute 60 miles a day into central london, so have quite a bit of experience on the bike.

I'm now getting to the point where I want more power, so should I get a 1000cc Firestorm Cool or a SV650 Confused

You need more power so you decide you might want a V twin with an extra 50cc displacement? Laughing

You want a 750 mate, of the GSXR K series variety. Very Happy Thumbs Up

erm....bandits have more power than sv's, don't they?

Why not bandit 12? Or are you after something completely different?

When I first decided to get a bike I had two concerns.

1. The weight of a big bike. So what do I get as my first big bike? A 205KG Bandit Laughing
2. The dropped style handle bars. Which is why I liked the Bandit.

Now though I want the sports bike style bars, thus the SV650 option, but as it will be a commuter bike as well as weekend fun, I dont really want a full on sports bike and I saw a lovely firestorm this morning Shocked

sv could be what you're after then, since there isn't MUCH difference in real performance terms (dont quote me on that though, sv has less power but lighter frame) The Insurance groups will be relatively the same, but the earlier sv's have clip on handlebars.

So....your bandit....you selling it? Got a url to some pictures and a price? Wink

I have been going through the exact same issue. I decided a big twin would be best as when commuting that low-down grunt would be ace, but also good for the weekend blasting.

However, after what seems like ages of cogetation, I have realised that insurance on these things is just simply too much for me. I live in a bad london post code I think. Unfortunately I think it will be a sports 600.

Recently test rode the ZX7R, but way too heavy for london. and it had a u-turn radius akin to teh orbit of hailey's commet. but it was still fantastic fun.

Good luck choosing.

At 60 miles a day, you'll be filling the Firestorm up a lot.

something from the ZZR series would be a good compromise between sporty and comfy/

A bike I have noticed as going for rediculously low prices recently (for no apparent good reason) is the Yam. TRX850, the v-twin that isn't. I reckon they look very smart, if I was in the market for a sports tourer, that is what i would be getting. I have seen fairly low mileage ones going for as little as £1,500.

First question that springs to mind is , if you are commuting into london why do you need power?
A bandit has more than enough power to commute on.

when you say "more power" do you mean easier to ride as in open the throttle and it picks up quicker?
If so then you need a bike with more torque not more power

The 600 bandit puts out around 75 bhp, thats way more than the SV, but the SV will pull harder when you gas it., due to its engine configuration and its carrying a lot less wieght.
The firestorms tank is way to small to commute on, you would have to fill up EVERY day, not top up, FILL UP

If your after something to play with at the weekends you need to ask what am i going to do on it.
Most 600cc and over sportbike riders have got no idea of the handling capabilties of their bikes because they are never going to get anywhere near the point where they are pushing the bike to its limits, they think they are and they will argue otherwise but in truth they just like to look nice in their matching kit and make a lot of noise.

I'd say the SV would be ideal, as would a TDM850/900 or the TRX as suggested by stinkwheel

Probably have to rebuild the engine twice a week if he's doing 60 miles a day Smile.

I would look at a zx6r J model, CBR600Fy or maybe a GSXR 600k1 or even possibly a GSXR750 Y/K model.

If you are looking to progress from the Bandit I think you will be disapointed by the SV650.

The first two sports bikes listed above have relatively 'comfortable' riding positions.

What's your budget?

If you're looking for a bit more upright position the bandit 12 would be a good choice. A bit more money and I could be tempted by a new style speed triple.

Said it before will say it again Thundercat! They are 600cc sports bikes with a less harsh sitting position I spent 7 hours on the thing today and no aches or pains! not much I can say about my mate on his NC30 he will need tomorrow off after that long at that position.
I use my bike for daily commute as well and it's perfect oh and is as quick as an R6 so can't complain.
From a bandit to a litre bike is a pretty HUGE step I'd say going to a sports 600 or a supersport 600 would be next step up!

So many choices Rolling Eyes

What do I want from another bike Question

Arrow Primary purpose - Commuting, so needs to be lightish, most of my journey is filtering through traffic on the A2, so it needs to be narrowish.

Arrow Seconday purpose - Weekend fun, so needs more touque, just bought some leathers, so need to be able to get my sliders scuffed. Laughing

Arrow Third purpose - Long rideouts, so needs to be comfortable, with a fairing to keep the wind down.

So the answers obvious :

Get a scooter for commuting - Narrow and light

Get CBR600RR for weekend - Fast and flickable

Get a Goldwing for rideouts - Comfortable, windproof

So anyone got 20-30k going spare Laughing Laughing

Sounds like a CBR600F might be the perfect bike for you.

You wont regret it is a superb all round machine, 170kg dry 100bhp and a comfortable riding position.

Plus, there are squilllions of the things, so it wont be hard to get a nice one.

Same could be said for a CBR600F and a much better bike than a Cat. No offence intended Paul.
