i saw this motorcycle bay about 500 metres from my house, if these are going to be the standard from now on the a big thumps up to brighton and hove council! Thumbs Up
Usually there is a very nice VFR parked up there on its own some! but i hope there will be more like this being put up soon, though one inprovement i can think of would to put bars at either ends to stop cars knocking the bikes over!

We got a new bay set up in out local shops' car park. They took an existing bay and plonked a small, concrete bollard right in the middle of it so cars can't use it.

The interesting thing is that there are no signs warning about it, and if there's no bikes in it an approaching car just sees an empty space and ploughs straight into the lump of concrete. Wink

Wotcha.

It's very rare you'll catch me doing 'politics', but this motorcycle parking bay is a 'spin-off' from the "Sandwell Strategy for Powered Two Wheelers"
The what, I hear you say ?

The Sandwell Strategy for Powered Two Wheelers.
To cut a long story short, this strategy was set up back in around 2000 in order to try and make life a tad better for us motorcyclists. Like most things involving local councils and others of their ilk, it took a vast amount of bullshit shifting before we got anywhere near common sense. One of the main stumbling blocks was cost - or, 'resource implications' as the council called it.
The first paragraph on this page PARKING BAY DESIGN lists what we would have liked as an ideal bay. I think the one in that picture ain't far off ( well, it's better than bugger all ).
As it turned out, West Bromwich ( sorry, I refuse to use the term Sandwell, there's no such place ) now has several dedicated m/c parking bays, all with nice bright yellow barriers which you can lock your bike to, and as a bonus, they are usually placed next to the disabled parking bays so it means they are nearest the shops rather than tucked out of sight somewhere.

The S.S.P.T.W proved so succesful that it was circulated around the country's local authorities, and a fair number of 'em have taken the ideas on board.

In an ideal world, every local authority would implement all the suggestions made in the strategy - but we all know that ain't going to happen Wink So if your local council talks about 'motorcycle forums', or other such things, why not get off your arse and see what it's all about ? Who knows, you could end up with better bike security as a result.

Right - that's my political bit done, but it just goes to show . . it may take a few years, but even a handful of awkward, obstinate bikers from the Black Country can make a difference to the parking in Brighton Cool

read in the local paper lately that we have 6 official designated motorcycle parking areas in our town centre now

went out after reading it, and found that all they have done is paint a white line on the ground to indicate the fact, basically where all the bikers used to park anyway, except now there is a white line, so the parking tickets will stop

well done watford council Rolling Eyes above and beyond as usual

crock of shite Thumbs Down

When I used to work on Old Street in Islington, the provided ground anchors that you pulled up and looped your chain through, very nifty I thought. Now I'm on Liverpool St the dont have the room, but instead have put a similar thing, a bar about 6" off the ground to lock your bike to.
