50cc are slow, if there not slow there noisy and get called hairdryers ect..

if you put a 16 year old on a 180cc moped, then your asking for trouble, there would be more accidents than ever.

I had a wale of a time on my moped, ok the wanting a bigger bike was a pain but still, had good fun.

50cc at 16 is right, in my view.

Steve.

If the time thing doesn't convince them... I bet you can run that thing for a week on one day's bus money.

My old 100cc did 10 trips to work and back, plus a bit of shopping at the weekend for the price of one tube return ticket to the office. Cool

Tell em to grow up. Cheap and fun. What more can you ask for?
The scooters nowadays beat the hell out of my old Honda Melody for style. My mate rode a Honda Express and used to put his camping gear in the little basket at the front. Wink

Ahhhh....Good times.

50cc scooters aregood little town runabouts. especially for 16yr olds.

I mean a little 16yr old chav on his 50cc speedfight is bad enough. Imagine sticking him on a 180cc scooter!!! Shocked

i'd probably still have one now to whizz into town on and mess about if i could afford to do it ( did i just say that Shocked )

don't take any crap lol and let bigger machines pass you! ( i hate it when ped riders block the way Wink )

Thing is no one has fun on a ped! They don't even try! Problem is in our day of fast speeds most 16yo's want to go faster and think it will be fun but still trundling along an A or B road at 60, amybe on a ped isn't fun. Seriously I made this past year fun by going out on rides in coutry lanes, you can whizz around without worries of what gear to be in and act like Rossi in a country lane, it really is fun!

Make the most out of what you have not wishing it to be something it aint, it isn't a MotoGP bike so don't try and make it act like one, you can chuck a 70cc lump in it and it will still be shit. Problem is we have a fair few ped owners on here who seem to think that having the fastest ped is the all end all. But honestly, I actually pity you because my Dads Ford Fiesta 1.25L would still piss over you. Smile

All the time your riding your Ped, you will be gaining experience and building on to your no claims bonus, so when you finally get that bigger bike, your insurance will be cheaper and you will have heaps more confidence on the road. They will probably still be getting the bus.

It is clear to me, who the loser is. (Hint: its not you Smile )

In the end, it doesn't matter what you ride, there's always someone who thinks it's shit.

Who cares.

Yes 50's are shit and slow, but at the end of the day we all have to start somewhere. I'm not really having fun on mine, but on a nice sunny day, a drive round town and the sea front can be pretty cool. As for the twats that take the piss, if they don't have a bike, just ask where is there bike. That should shut them up. Also, as you said, just ask how long it takes them to get into town, school etc. That should give them the signal to f*ck off.

Mmm, moped V bus. Sorry, the bus doesn't get a look in. Why would anyone pay extra to wait around getting wet for some homicidal maniac in a barely upholstered cattle truck to turn up and dump you somewhere in the vague area you want to go to.

Much of Europe allows 14 year olds to ride 50s, and 125s at 16.

All the best

I love my little ped Smile May be slow, but it sure beats getting the bus everywhere!

It's also fun doing things to it, just to get another 10-15mph out of it... bit of a learning curve for me, too - I've learnt a lot about engines playing around with my ped, which is good..

If I can afford it I'd love to move up to a bigger bike eventually, although I can't sell the ped on to raise funds for a 125 Sad (Gotta keep hold of it for my brother). On the plus side, thats time to play around with it some more Very Happy

What I love most though is the freedom - nice sunny day, so I go and explore some little windy roads nearby, which I'd never been down before.

What I do hate, however, is other ped owners who really do think their peds are the fastest vehicles on the road, and who boast about getting 65 on the flat. Hmmm - just try explaining to one of the ped chavs that their speedo is wrong, and wait for the abuse to start. They know it all, obviously.

Sorry for the long post...

Jon

Aye, but the safety nazis have been telling people for so long that bigger bike immediately = death that most seem to believe it. If you have even the smallest amount of common sense then it's piss easy to jump on a large bore machine and go from day one. If anything it's the difference between a sports machine and a standard cruiser/tourer/commuter bike that's more worthy of notice than engine capacity, and even that is no reason not to ride it, just pay more attention to what you're doing.

some times the hassle of riding a bike short distances, in the wet etc

I got told my ped sounded like a sewing machine when it had the stock exhaust on. I just laughed, because it did.

I don't think it's the age, it's the attitude. Many people over 21 go out and do their DAS, jump on a R1 thinking they can handle it, and they simply cannot., they end up severely injured or killed. Which isn't nice. People in Guernsey *sp* are allowed to ride peds (50cc) at 14 and 125's at 16, i think the same rule applies for many european countries too. If you have the right attitude and level of self-control then you should be ok on a bigger bike. Thumbs Up
