Any how, as standard the frame is spray painted light grey. It has some area's of minnor rust (I thought Alui didn't rust?!). If I want to get this powder coated what state does it need to be in? Does it have to be stripped back to the bare metal? How do I do this? Will the rust cause a problem? There is only a very small amount. Also how do I go about getting the tank powder coated? Thanks

Get the frame shotblasted to take it back to bare metal, then get it powdercoated.

Hi

Most places will do both the shot blasting and the powder coating. The rust is not a problem. Getting the tank done might not be that easy as powder coated finishes are not that great which might well be fairly obvious on a large fairly flat area.

All the best

Hi

It is a pretty tough finish, far better for protection that painted or stove enameling (if you can find someone who will still do that). It can provide a good cosmetic finish buy I would not rely on it.

I would also suggest that you find someone who is used to doing work on bike and car parts. Some of the coatings used are mainly intended for industrial use and some go matt after a few years. No a problem on a set of shelves in a dark corner, but a bit of a pain on a bike frame which has taken you many hours to strip down and rebuild.

All the best

Keith
