As you know I have had the VFR for a while now, been running sweet since having it but it needed new plugs, carbs cleaned, air filter clean etc.
I have all of this done now costing me around 230 quid, but I appear to have a different problem now.
I was getting flat spots from old plugs and maybe due to some shit in the carbs, with the work done the bike runs very sweet getting those high speeds easy.
I noticed the bike running a bit poor at low speeds in heavy rain the other day, spluttering like fuel problem (I asked some of you and some had the same problems), I went out last night in the nice weather and the same thing started to happen when the bike got warm. Previously I had D40 on the caps, and left them unattached to evaporate anything left.

It has had this problem since going to the Honda garage, so my question is, what is my next move?
I don’t have enough for labour charges again, nor do I know what the problem is due to as the fuel lines have been checked, fuel tap, carbs, plugs, air filter etc.

Help! Thumbs Up

If it has started since having the work done, go back and ask them what and how they did what they did or get them to check their work.
You paid to have your bike spruced up not to have additional problems added.
I had a similar thing with my NSR. I got it back from the dealer after a service and she had lost top end stuttered at six thou. Turns out that they had not put the airbox back properly and had not put the air intake for the carb on its seating within the box. They also tried to fail it on its MOT 3 weeks after its service on a notchy stearing thing. Something to do with the handle bars. Told them to get it in the workshop there and then to fix it and pass it as it had only just been in and things like that should be picked up on a service. Muppets.
Needless to say I went to another dealer from then on!
Thumbs Up

Thanks man, I will give them a call.
Do you really think they will do this, what if they say it’s just something else and not up to them?

They have a warrenty on their work. If you aint happy with it you are perfectly within your rights to question it and have them do it again!
You piad for your bike to be fixed...not broken. How long ago was it done?

Hmmm, you filled it up with clean petrol since this started (well fresh petrol anyway). If a garage were sneaky I guess they could put somehting in the fuel to make it run badly and get even more of your custom. I'm sure thats very unlikely to have happened though, just be interesting to see if it still happens with new fuel in the system.

I would have thought it would have been a choked fuel line but you've already said it's been checked. Thinking As a bit of a noob question, what is D40? WD40? Also, have you tried any redex? Not saying it will solve your problem but made my bike a lot more responsive on the throttle.

Well my theory is I might not be used to the on tap to reserve yet, I know the float bowls are not very large on the VFR, if I am floating between on and reserve it might cause a problem. Thing is I found a slight spluttering on reserve also, when the bike is put under acceleration it seems fine. I’m pretty much paranoid of the bikes every sound and move as I have had so much shit from bikes in the past.#
I’ll try the red-x, and fill her up.
Yeah sorry D40 is WD40.

Dont take too long to get back to the dealer. Their work will only be under warrenty for a time. Also dont play with it too much if you are going to take it back. They will laugh at you if you have messed about with it too much and charge you.

Try the redex thing and if that dont work get it back to the shop. Thumbs Up

i had the same problem, but i dunno how to fix it as it soted its self out. also recently it was running a bit clunky, then a couple of days ago, there was a big clunk from the back end and its riding the smoothest ive ever had it Exclamation Question Question Exclamation

so, unless its serious, i tend to do little things to try and sort it, then take it to a garage that i know will sort the problem

Try Bransons in Goucester next time. I had work done on a cbr600f by them and complained about something after. They took the bike in 3 times to sort it and gave me a loan bike everytime. They sorted the problem and I did not have to pay any extra.

I have used them a lot since with no problems. They are a bit more professional then Pitville.

Cheers SP, whereabouts are you from then?
A loan bike sounds good, as long as it isn’t a moped.

I’m gonna try a few things without taking it apart.

Thanks again

If you don't fancy Bransons try Tredworth Motorcycles, Gloucester. Tou can find their contact details here www.tredmc.co.uk

I've always found Bransons to be friendly enough and professional however Tredworth Motorcycles have been going for Years, have a very good reputation and are as honest as the day is long.

As an example I decided to book my Triumph into them for a Full Service and MOT last week instead of using Bransons in an attempt to support the 'local small guy' as opposed to the Bigger Company. I was quoted £120 for a Full Service and MOT.

When I went to pick the bike up I was actually charged 75 quid and given the explanation that they found the set up of the bike (carbs, etc) was spot on and nothing needed to be adjusted so they were charging me for MOT and change of oil and air filters only. I very much doubt that you'd get this type of honesty from the majority of dealers anywhere so a big Thumbs up to then for their honesty Thumbs Up

Mine does (did that) last Summer. ie when the bike gets hot it goes uneven at low rpm. It hasn't done it this year so far, I don't know if that's because it hasn't got hot enough for this to happen or it's sorted itself out yet.

Let it get reall really hot and it'll stutter at idle and stall itself.

Mine starts/started to go spluttery at about 1/2 way on the temp scale. Was this problem happening around town? Basically overheats, but gets worse the hotter the bike gets untill it stalls itself.

Yeah when it got about half way it was all spluttery, once you get going it is quick but if you pulled off fast at the lights you could stall it.

Same mate. I've had to hold the throttle open at about 3,000 when it gets like this. On kill spills last year my bike cut out a few times, it's just overheating unless it does it when cold / warmish aswell.

So far this year it this "problem" (although not a problem, just how they are) hasn't appeared on my bike.

Does the fan kick in? Mine does but it starts idling funny before it cuts in.
