Hi all,

Booked in for practical test next Thursday, don't know if im doing it too soon, only had a bike the last 2 months since CBT in February.

Then I don't know if i've booked the right test, i've booked the A2 as I have my bike im happy with, but I know I could have done the full bike test.

Anyway that aside I have some questions, I can hardly remember my cbt now.

These are:

On a mini roundabout do you have to signal?

Changing down gears, is it okay to slip clutch and change down a few gears at a time, or is gradualy gear change best?

Those speed humps, is it okay to ride over the centre bit where there is a gap?

Waiting at junctions, 1st gear or neutral. ( I can change pretty quick).

After U turn etc or when waiting for him, leave in gear and slip clutch or back to Neutral?

On roads with parked cars is it okay to go over centre line and give the doors a wide birth?

How wide road do you do your U-turn on??

I have been practicing loads and have good road knowledge, but just want to know the right thing that they expect. I know I can ride, I've been driving cars for 16 years with no problems. (ie passed at 17).

Seriously if anyone answers any of these, then thanks

Thumbs Up

On a mini roundabout do you have to signal?

yes unless you are going straight across

Changing down gears, is it okay to slip clutch and change down a few gears at a time, or is gradualy gear change best?

only in a few cases, like coming to a full stop, but you will get the hang of it from riding experence, depends on what the engine is doing and the road conditions

Those speed humps, is it okay to ride over the centre bit where there is a gap?

in really life and its safe, yes, but for test reasons take the bump

Waiting at junctions, 1st gear or neutral. ( I can change pretty quick).

1st with clutch in, so you areready to go

After U turn etc or when waiting for him, leave in gear and slip clutch or back to Neutral?

Neutral

On roads with parked cars is it okay to go over centre line and give the doors a wide birth?

yes as long as its safe to do so

How wide road do you do your U-turn on??

one the examiner sees fit, you should have plenty of room

With the U-turn you will be asked to 'walk the bike in a half circle so you end up on the other side of the road facing the other direction when it is safe to do so'

Basically if you cant walk it around that gap full lock... he shouldnt make you ride it.

If it is real tight remember, you can ride sharper U turns than you can push (apparantly.... bloody U turns... *Waves fist*)

Everything White Noise said is correct. Read his post. Do not do anything "extra" (like going in the middle of the road so you don't go over a bump) because that could increase the danger the safety of yourself and other motorists... blah...blah...blah

Got my test next Wednesday and I'm more worried about pushing the bike in a U Turn than actually riding a U turn. Confused

Quick question, say I have just gone past a couple of parked cars but I see some more about 20 metres away do I have to lifesaver for those aswell? Even if I don't re-centre myself in the lane?

just a quick note, on my test there were those speed humps which are just a blob in the centre of the road, well my instructor said that the examiners would rather you go around them, as it sows more road awareness or something. But if going around them you have to lifesaver other the apropriate shoulder first. Hope that helps

Oh and when waiting for him, i left it in first with clutch in as instructor said to. Didn't get marked down for it but i don't think it'll matter.

jon, i'll tell u what my instructor told me as i've done training recently, basically any manovour that means you change direction or posistion needs a life saver over the appropriate shoulder first. So what i did was, as i was shown was life saver before moving out over right shoulder, and then when moving back in life saver over left shoulder. I don't thjink u can be marked down for doing one, it'll show ur awareness of the situation and go in your favour i think.

If it is about 20 metres and no moving cars are in sight just stay in the centre. If it is a [quite] busy road then move over and do all the lifesavers aswell. Just stay in the center until the row of parked cars has finished, cars are coming towards you, it is a busy road or it is causing more hassle than good.
