That doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

You'll waste considerably more than £100 pounds if you flip it as soon as you touch the throttle!

Go for it.. but I would suggest you take a pillion ride with that person, rather then ride it yourself Thumbs Up

Otherwise, just take it easy, be gentle, and listen to the owner of the bike..

....Errr....... please don't get on and ride that bike, find a less powerfull bike like a 125cc.

If you want to see what a 1000cc bike is like, get on as a pillion and not as a rider.

In a simple word 'Yes' litre (1000cc) bikes are bloody powerful.

You might not necessarily wheelie the thing but you'll probably find yourself on your arse when you attempt to open the throttle whilst the bike whizzes off without you thus costing you more than 100 quid in repairs.

They're shiny and look pretty but at the end of the day they're unbelievably powerful pieces of kit, a 400cc bike could have an inexperienced biker on his/her backside with a twist of the throttle.

Spend your cash and see if you enjoy yourself - You probably will and you won't be put off by having a terrifying experience on a bike that IS going to be too much for you to handle.

Can't believe someone would actually let you do this on their litre sports bike. Laughing

They are probably after a new one, but don't want to do an insurance scam. Wink

One wrong twist of the throttle on a 1000cc sports bike will probably jerk you off the bike, whereas on a 125 although you can probably nearly jerk yourself off it, youll probably always be able to hang on.

On a litre bike though, if you jerk it a bit and then as a consequence your wrist pulls the throttle open... Youll be doing 60mph in 2.8 seconds, and that wont be fun Wink

It's just stupid even considering it.
You haven't even been on a 50cc shitter(i've seen 1st timers come off on them) let alone a 1000c superbike.

Dont be stupid! You've never ridden any bike before and you want to jump onto something as powerful as a 1000, probably get yourself hurt, and all for the sake of saving £100??

Rather you than me mate.

If you know how to use a clutch properly, go for it.

I let my friend have a go on my NSR 125cc. He had never ridden a motorcycle before. He got on and let the clutch out to fast and went speeding down the (private) road and nearly into the wall (i told him how to do everything in nice easy steps aswell, but this still happened).

He had driven cars for 8 years and knows how to work the clutch on the car etc...but the bike was a surprise for him.

Now this is with a 125cc and your talking 1000cc...i think its a bad idea. You might make a similar mistake and on a 1000cc and it won't be a nice sight.

Plenty of CBT rider training places will give you an hour lesson for free! There was a list in MCN not too long ago.....

Some people would be fine, some people wouldn't /shrug.

If you have to ask, then I'd say don't do it.

Damn, you must have a really good friend or he is just taking the piss out of you. Pay for a CBT, do it properly and if you dont like it at least you'll still be in one bit (hopefully Rolling Eyes ), Losing £100 if you dont like it is better than losing control of a very expensive, powerful bike and having to pay for that.

MCN (Motorcycle News) were doing an offer to get a free taster lesson on a 125 in certain areas and I think it's still active, see here:
https://www.motorcyclenews.com/nav?page=motorcyclenews.articles.articleCategory.article&resourceId=2036259&articleCategory=MCN-EXTRA_MCN-PROMOTIONS

If you click on "where to do it" you get a list of all of the participating BSM schools. Some local training schools do free taster lessons, and I'm sure I've seen people doing instructor training posting on here giving free lessons to help them pass their training. You will find that all of these start you on a 125cc, rather than something which is 8 times as powerful!

Well done mate, you've just extended your life.

You'll just have to trust the rest of us when we say 1000cc bikes are f*ckin' powerful. Right now a 400, hell even a derestricted 250 would terrify you (no offence intended).

All things come to those who wait. Karma

EDIT/ I believe 'biketeacherdave' is offering a free lesson. Don't know if he's in you area though.

LOL Just imagining what would have happened if when i first got on a bike (cbt) it was a 1000cc sports bike instead of a 125 champ,
would have all ended in a trip to the hospital Laughing Laughing Laughing
