Didnt want to clog the "camping" thread up about festivals.

Am wanting to know if theres anywhere to secure your bike to at leeds, or could you put it next to your tent insted of in the car park. The tickets include free parking so cost is not a worry.

Is anyone else going to leeds or any other festival by bike?

Leeds is a bit of a nightmare - there's no way you'll get your bike anywhere near where your tent will be. Actually, that's not strictly true - there would just be a fugging great fence in the way. Last time I went to Leeds it was something like a 10-15 minute trek from the carpark to our tent, even though it was probably only about a hunded metres, as the crow flies.

Reading is much better for parking, as you park in the same field as you camp.

The last two years i went to leeds on my bike (cg first time cx two up the second, transalp this year)

Get a bike cover and a decent lock and chain (bike lock does this job fine) in addition to your normal security, chain the helmets to the bike (its a long way to walk whatever way you go carrying allot of bike gear) as being secure i dont think its an issue, the bike parking, such as it is (i.e. a bit near the entrance where all the bikes have parked) is too far to be messed with, if your just chained and covered it should be fine... if you go on the saturday//sunday i think you can pretyt much park where you like...

The entrance road is bad, dont clean your bike before you go Razz

The other pain is finding the entrance, they moved it from the year before and the morons maning the exits didn't know where the carpark entrance was either time Rolling Eyes

How far as you rideing btw? if you can get a friend to take your gear in their car, makes life easyer...

Edit: Silver - yeh we had to get tickets, must have gone about 3 miles alltogether before getting to our mates, a long way holding bike gear and bags in the very hot sun...

It's just a field.

Went to Reading year before last on my ZX6R, take a couple of big chains and chain it to something which isn't going anywhere like a large tree.

The parking is in large fields but if you park at the edges of the fields then there should be something to chain your bike to. We had three bikes chained together and to a tree without any problems and it's easier getting parked again with a bike rather than a car if you go out of the site which is also good. Smile

Have taken a bike to Reading a few times; living in Reading helps though.

I have seen people with their bike parked by their tents there (there is only hedge rows, not a specific fence between parking and camping in Reading.)

Last year I parked it by the entrance to the festival; in the carpark for the Leisure Center, I don't think I was supposed to, but I went accross a footpath entrance into the carpark, so they didn't see me to stop me. This section was closed off to the public pparking, for caterers etc etc to park in.
