Seen one of these for sale for my first bike. I need to know if it will need restricting or not because im not sure what power it puts out. I know the engine delivers more than 33hp but rear wheel im not sure.
Its quite an unknown bike so parts might be a bit hard to find, but i like it and insurance is cheap.

I tried asking the insurance about restricting it but they didnt know.

Insurance is quoted at 149 which is cheap i think.

bear in mind the 33hp limit is at the CRANK.

I did get this clarified by the DVLA.

From having a poke around on Google, it seems that the Zeal 250 is 40bhp, from sites such as this one.

lol

just ride it.

If plod think its over the limit and want to test it, just take out your air filter, half cover it in gaffer tape then let them test it. Bet itll be under 33 hp then lol

I did something similar to my then XBR500, by putting a big washer between the carb and the airbox lol

I suppose even if i crack in some washers from a DIY store that narrow the gap a little its going to be less than 33.
Im still curious to how the test it at the crank. I thought they just dyno it.

they can make a good guess from the back wheel figure, if its around 31-32 hp or more they'll probably do you.

To test at the crank you have to have the engine out of the bike altogether, and mount it, not surprisingly, onto an engine dyno. I doubt many local places would have an engine dyno as distinct from a vehicle dyno at all anyway. As for them even taking the engine out of the bike to test, I should think that could/ would only happen if they'd (the police had) siezed it as evidence for a criminal prosecution with the engine power being relevant to the offence.

Alternatively, they just look the figures up and see if it's restricted.

I actually did my test on a Zeal 250. The tester didn't ask me about its power once I told him it's a 250. They sound awesome and I love the 16k redline! In ireland anyway it's sort of an unwritten rule among the gards anyway that a 250 is fine, once you hit the 400's is where they start asking questions about restriction.
