Im looking for a off road bike and want a four stroke. Which one do you think is best for money and reliability (providing you do regular oil and oil filter changes.)
YZF 250/426, CRF 250/450 Or KTM 400/450/520 SX
Which one would you recommend from the list.
I had a Yamaha WR 400 which was for only off road use, it was reliable but didn't have the power or suspension and was quite bulky.
So which one would you recommend and WHY???

You had a WR400 and thought it was slow? There are quite a few things you can do to rectify that (allowing full throttle would be no.1):

Only thing I can do is confuse you further, how about a Suzuki DRZ400E, much better than the Z version you buy ready for the road. I had a blat on a friends and it was plenty pokey. He now has a CRF 450, which is an absolute monster, scared the hell outta me, even if I was laughing uncontrollably.
As far as I know KTM's are cheaper, but there not called Kick for Twenty Minutes for nothing.
The cheapest way is to buy as a crosser and register it yourself, it really isn't lots of hassle like people think.
Unless you are riding it on private land, it needs to be road legal, ie registered, taxed and insured, as byways are technically roads, and riding anywhere else is illegal anyway. ____________________ Part-time GSXR1000 pilot>Micron Serpert system+K&N, PC111, Sigma slipper clutch, Brembo m/c+Galfer discs, Gilles rearsets, Translogic Quickshifter.

If you want reliability and best for money i would probably go for a 2-stroke i've heard of a few 4-strokes going and costing major money to repair, 2 strokes generally aren't that expensive to repair when they break.
I prefer KTM's though, an sx125 was much nicer than my kx125, and they've got loads of trick bits. ____________________ ?It?s mercy, compassion, and forgiveness I lack?not rationality.? |
