Ok, so at the moment i have a provisional licence. When im 17 and have passed my test (restricting me to 33bhp), will my licence then be a full licence? or will it still be a provisional?

You don't have to send it back and pay for one without <25kw on it if you don't want to, there's no requirement to. A cop can tell what date the restriction ended on by looking at the dates on your license if they're interested.

The restricted access test does give you a full license, it's a category A license rather than A1 license that you get from doing DAS but after the two years at 33bhp it's the same. Smile

They will, you do have to send off your test pass certificate to them though. Thumbs Up

sorry to knit-pick but i thought if you did DAS you got a CAT A, if you do your test on a bike between 120 and 125cc the you get a CAT A2 for two years which gets automatically upgraded after two years to CAT A, and CAT A1 allows you to ride any bike up to 125cc without L plates and to use motorways and obviously don't have to retake your CBT every 2 years (which is the only advantage i can see of doing it).

The descriptive of 'Full Licence' refers to the fact it is not 'Provisional'. As Ste said, it doesn't matter which test you take, it's still a full licence.

You don't have to get a new one, you can quite legally keep your card which has the 25kw maximum printed on it. This was checked with the DVLA by people in this thread.
