I was trying to remove an engine from my zxr4 frame, it wasn't shifting so i took a hammer to the top of it... I didn't hit it very hard but its put a rather nasty expensive looking crack in the cylinder head. It's approx 1 1/2 inches long.

I'm going to take it down to a bike garage tomorrow to see what they say, but does anyone know if they will be able to weld it up or are they going to tell me to go get a new cylinder head? Confused

any ideas/suggestions welcomed...

And yes, I know i'm a plonker....

Depends what the crack goes through, if its hit water/oil ways your looking at a new head.

Just in case it's not repairable here's where you can get replacement OEM parts from as they are the official Kawasaki importer of any items that you need. You just e-mail them and they come back with a price !

www.z-power.co.uk

Alternatively try buying a used part and check these companies to see if they have one.

Hi

Eeek.

To do the job properly would mean stripping the head down. Personally I would say it would be cheaper to find a good 2nd hand head on Ebay.

All the best

Keith

that better not be in my zxr, and second what r u thinking..... hammer to an engine because it doesnt move lol? it required planning and thinking not brute force and ignorance although that does sometimes work. i think you whould be stripped of hammers from now on. Razz unless they are made of cheese.

For the average Joe it aint and you know it. Its like saying home painting is a piece of piss as well. But as you know with the amount of duff advice out there that aint the case.

In a decent work shop or engineering dept it is, but since I know mike doesn't have access to that kind of a equipment its not going to be easy for him is it?

Welding alloy isnt too hard, doing it well enough to be useful, especially on a cylinder head, is bloody difficult without exactly the right tools and a lot of experience.
