Hi All,
First post nerves will probably make this go all wrong, but anyway...
I am not even a learner yet, sitting my theory on Tuesday - will be arranging CBT-DAS on Weds.
I am limited by a budget, as are most normal people, but I just can't seem to find anything better suited to be my first bike than the ZZR600. (early to mid ninties - newer if budget permits)
From my limited web browsing skills and short period of looking, it appears to be an ideal choice - not too shabby but not insanely quick, comfortable but not boring, cheap to purchase and hopefully to repair , insurance friendly-ish, not too quickly grown out of...etc, etc.
I am 28 and have been driving since the dawn of time. I currently have a moderately fast (by car standards) Mitsubishi, which is killing me financially as a commuter vehicle, hence the desire to get riding.
I have read up on the new rider/fast bike debates, but being no stranger to high speeds and the consequences of them, combined with my love for my daughter, I have no doubt that my learning curve will stay well on the side of caution. (read as: I'm a pansy really!!!)
Can anyone offer up some other avenues I should be looking down, before my Ebaying fetish sends me across the country to pick up an impulse ZZR purchase?
Thanks for any comments.. ____________________ Mungel

You could also consider a Yamaha thundercat, a bit more sporty than the ZZR but not too crazy!

Yes but both Cat and VFR will no doubt be dearer to buy, insure and run...
Whats you budget?
Only bad thing I've heard about the ZZR is the sub-standard brakes. Braided lines and some new pads should sort that. ____________________ Old bikes >>> https://www.bikepics.com/members/cc123/ |

Dearer to buy, probably.
Dearer to run... wouldn't count on it.
If you're after a ZZR, talk to tgabber on here, he's got one and should know a bit about it's pros and cons. |

Thanks for the replies and the suggestions.
The VFR is definately out of the price range, although the YZF seems a very viable option. I will be doing a bit more research before committing to any purchase.
Got a cheap and neutral coloured jacket and helmet today from Watford for my CBT next week. They had a nice black ZZR600 in stock - Low Miles, W-reg @ £3k.. a little bit over my budget for a first bike... but sooo glad I didn't have the credit card on me as I'm one impulsive chap with no fear of debt...
I am hoping to not have to break £1k for a good, old, high mileage fleabay jobbie. I know the risks of the 'bay', through buying many cars before now, some good, some not, but it is my first bike and therefore 99% certain to hit the deck at some point.. ____________________ Mungel

I picked up my FZR on ebay for £600. It needed a new rear shock and a back tyre plus as always a good service.
Still going well btw |
