Hi all,
First off all I would like to introduce myself, I am a new biker from North Lincolnshire. Just passed my CBT 4 weeks ago and bought a new bike shortly after.

Sadly I bought a Brand new CBR125 R…after snooping around your forum it seems I made a bad mistake Sad . I was wondering if anyone can tell me if the CBR 125 is restricted as I can not seem to get it over 60-65 on a private Road or does it just not go over that. Glad I found this forum hopefully I can get to know a few of you =D

Thanks
FooSoup

The CBR is not restricted. That is one of the reasons many people advice against them.

In themselves they are not bad bikes, but you pay a lot of money for not much bike.

Have you run the bike in yet (believe this is the first 1000 miles)?
How long was this road... on most bikes with standard gearing the last 10mph or so is usually quite slow acceleration.

Basically people will tell you that you should have got a 2stroke such as RS125 etc. Shouldn't have bought new really as you will more than likely drop it at least once being a new biker.

You will take a hit on the depreciation but the little CBR is a good runner and ideal first bike.

Hi,
Thanks for responding so fast i didn't think anyone would be on at this time.

I have got around 250 or so miles on it at the moment trying my best to be careful and keep the revs low while i get those miles up, but had to test to see how fast it would actually go.

The main reason i asked if it was restricted is i was stuck at around 65 for 5 mins or so in top gear sitting on around 7k revs i just could not get it over 7k...

I have booked my (big bike) test for summer time next year hopefully i can get a little bit back on my 125 once i have done that and get myself a 500-600 cc.

Thanks again.

I don't know how much damage you are doing thrashing (relatively) the bike like that. But I suspect it probably invalidates your warrenty; think it's usually half revs for the first 1000 miles.

You may well go quicker by holding on to the red line in each gear; only change up when you get to it.

However you are even more likely to have problems with it if you do!
