not sure but by all accounts it is a very dull bike, the sv, cb600 and fazer all kick its ass and my mate even preferred his bandit400 to the 600, i may be getting a go on one tonight but dont have high hopes

According to www.bikez.com, its 0.3959 HP/kg. Not really sure if thats right or not, but the dry weight of a naked Bandit6 is 205kg and the claimed power is 76bhp (57kw.) I think you can only work the power-to-weight ratio when you've got a full tank of petrol and a rider on the bike as well. (I'm probably wrong, but thats what a quick yahoo search some up with.) Wink

Theres nothing wrong with the Bandit6. Sure they are down on power compared to other 600's, but that doesnt make them bad. They have more than enough power, comfortable and cheap to run. Its your opinion that its a dull machine. Razz

good bike, and fast for its weight..... thats my main problem with them, they don't ned to be that heavy... the headlight bracket itself weighs way too much....

the early ones were about 70bhp, fuel injected ones are probably a bit more and the engine is a very modern one which can have a lot of mods even boreing out to 800cc which is unthinkable for the old gsx600 engine the bandit is based on.

the sv also only weighs 165kg vs the 208kg of the bandit and is a lot thinner, i should add that while 70bhp doesnt sound a lot for a 650cc engine remember this is a V twin so apart from sounding cool and being popular with the ladies Twisted Evil has wads of torque.

torque is a bit hard to visualize but think about a giant and midget walking along the road, bhp is the number of steps they can take but torque is the lenght of their steps, while the giant might take half the number of steps his stride enables him to cover a greater distance.

i just road a bandit 600 about an hour ago and while i thought it was cool to have a big solid bike i could muscle around {1} there was no real power band, i yanked the throttle back from 4000 to 8000 rpm and nothing happend, i would not dare do that on my sv. both my mate and i prefer the bandit 400 which actualy has engine characteristics which were fun, it seemed like the big learner bikes which have on real power band so newbies dont sky the front wheel.

i would qualify my remarks by saying i only rode a hire bandit for about an hour while i loved my bandit400 even though it was very unreliable and while i think my sv is a bit light i love the instant power and not having to rev the tits off it.

{1} im 6'2 and of stocky build so a big heavy lump to most folks is a solidly built to me

i plan on floging mine for about £1800 {1}, they arent as expensive as they used to be, the reason they cost so much second had a couple of years back is nobody wanted to sell theirs.

if you plan on going to a dealer you will pay about a grand more than privately for a warranty which is pointless for the sv since the engine will do 100,000 miles with little more than the odd oil change, and the only other issue i can think they have is the finish which while it isn't exactly great is not a real problem and wouldnt be covered by a warranty anyway.

{1} t reg 23k kms bright yellow with new tyres, scotoiler, bellypan and just serviced the brakes etc for mot, unfortuneatly its in glasgow and the fairing is cracked

Yes the SV has loads of low down torque, everyone knows that, but you obviously never realised that you get most of the power on an inline 4 at the higher end of the rev range. Rolling Eyes

I have a Bandit 600, the reason for getting this was that its my first big bike (above 125) and i was told it was a good one to learn on. It has all the power I need, i can get 90MPH out of it just about, which is plenty for road driving. Im quite tall so the size of the Bandit also helps, plus it is really cheap to run, a tank for 8=10 quid gets me 120 miles at least. Mainly use it for traveling atm, when i get more experience and the money, ill get a sports bike aswell for fun. If you are just moving up to big bikes, then i would not fault the bandit 600, but if your already experienced, then its maybe not the best out there. I don't know, only ridden this and a Hongdou 125cc, Embarassed lmao!

I used to ride mine on the motorway everyday, used to get 115mph or 120 at a push... the lack of fairing on the naked is a problem, but I think they look better naked.
Its a good bike, cheap to maintain and can be fun to ride in the right hands.

i run 2 bandits a naked and faired one, no problem with either bike they both feel very different to ride, i use both every week depending on the training im doing.

The faired one now has a taller touring sreen on and is good for 120 plus the naked one sports a givi fly screen which makes 90ish fine.

The power on a bandit 600 only comes in over 8000rpm they like to be revved so keep it in the lower gears longer, the only down side is there weight as mentioned but for any half decent ride that shouldnt be a problem Mr. Green loads of my pupils have bought them as first bikes and still have them

Is it restricted?

When mine was 33bhp, it was awful. Would struggle to hit 95 and took way too long to get to that kind of speed. Now those are out of the bike, I've seen 110 a few times, and that was sitting up. (I'm tall and dont want to look like a numpty, all tucked in on a naked bike. Laughing ) Its great fun to ride, but everything starts getting a bit windy at anything above 85ish, but thats without the extra fairing.

Greg, ask Tom what its like going from a full power ER-5 onto a full power bandit. The ER5 is a good bike, but when riding one after being on the bandit, you can really tell the difference. (Huge understatement I know. Razz ). No doubt you'd enjoy a bandit, just need to get a good test ride on one before parting with your cash. Thumbs Up
