No I haven’t binned it.
I don’t think I have met a really bad spill of diesel on the road yet, I was watching a little of this programme last night I think BBC1 and some woman had ploughed her 4x4 into the ditch leaving some nasty diesel on the road.
A guy showed, by skidding on his feet over it, just how slippy it was.
WTF?! So for being a bit slow but that shit is bad, am I right when I say it doesn’t look like you can see it on the road in the dry?
That has really made me think, I had images of me on the motorway taking a long sweeping left, and bang, slipped and into the central reservation.

Tis nasty shit.

You should be able to see it though, in the dry you're going to be able to tell there's some kinda substance on the road and in the wet you get that lovely rainbow effect.

Yet another thing you gotta look out for, mainly cos of peoples' laziness. Rolling Eyes

I've noticed it a lot more since passing my bike test last year - never really paid attention to it much before then.

The worst diesel experience I had was last summer just outside Glasgow in my 4x4. It had been raining and I pulled into a petrol station to fill up. There was standing water all over the forecourt and it just looked like one big slick. I warned the cashiers when I paid and then rejoined the road. Came up to a roundabout about 1/4 mile further on, slowed down (gently) and ended up going sideways onto the roundabout.

It just highlighted how dangerous it was, as I'd have been sliding over the roundabout on my arse if I'd been on my bike and there was nothing I could do to stop it.

I was behind a lorry on a dually, and diesel was literally pissing out from the back for a long way. Rolling Eyes

On that programme it was actually some diesel left by a lorry, that 4x4 slipped on it, there was loads of the stuff.

Cars couldn't drive on it properly, image a bike on that stuff Sad

This is exactly my point, it just impossible to even say you could go slowly over it, you can’t!!
That woman was unlucky then, I thought it was her diesel, she took down 8 bollards, whereas I though, a bike would have been taken out by one bollard.

I have the after effects of a badly set broken ankle thanks to diesel Evil or Very Mad Picture the scene, lovely sunny Saturday morning, hardly any traffic on the Basingstoke roads, me on my bought yesterday FJ1200, feeling good on my nice shiny new bike.
Coming off a roundabout onto the ringroad, which just happened to have 2 lanes off the roundabout onto it & I was riding with my full face Sunday trilby on....not my usual style I should add.....& thought, "I'll just take it easy round here & use both lanes to exit the roundabout."
Between the lanes there was a line of diesel, thing is it was early morning & there were some damp patches still & as this bit of road was by some trees I thought it was just drying water.....well the front wheel slipped from under the bike like someone had exchanged the front Michelin for a castor. The bike hit the floor so quickly....I had no time at all to react. It landed onto my leg & my ankle took the full weight of the FJ....That's a fair ol' lump is that....My FJ looked pristine for all of approx 12 hours of me buying it. A record to this day for me....thank feck!

You was watching that airport programme Mr. Green
I watched it aswell Embarassed
A slick that big should be reasonably easy to spot and smell on a bike.

Because of the problems diesel spills cause I never try to cram too much in when I fill the car. I only wish everyone else was as considerate. Trouble is most people don't even know it's a problem.

I had a similar experience on my FJ1200 going to visit a love interest in Worcester, came off junction seven M5, went in as far to turn right on to the a4040 ( i think) and swung around the roundabout.

At the last second i saw the thin line of diesel on the road, but not early enough to avoid-i was pitched right over. The bike slid violently to the left, but i was lucky enough to get my right leg down and shove the bike upright again. Fortunately for me it wasnt busy or i could have quite possibly slid into someone.....

I got dieseled years ago, luckily i was only on a 125 so the bikes weight didn't damage me. I'd just picked up a pair of leather trousers and was on the way home, half way round the first roundabout and the front just went you get no warning at all.It was very slow speed and the only damage apart from a small scar on Caths knee was a broken brake lever and knackered leather trousers.

You know I never even knew anything about diesel on the roads till I got my bike. When you're in the car you can't see it. But as soon as I got my bike I got a shock at how much of it there is when the roads are wet. Shocked

I was passenger in a mates car about a year ago and it had just pissed it down. Approaching a T junction we saw a massive diesel slick in the road... so mate goes to pull away... not very gently and the car did a 45 degree turn all on its own and left us heading towards a nice big hedge Cool

Fortunatly the brakes worked just in time...

Oh and the last time i reported a diesel spill at a petrol station, I was handed a bucket of saw-dust and a broom and was told to go clear it up Rolling Eyes
