I've only had the thunderace a couple of months, and already I'm wondering what I might replace it with Smile

One thing that's becoming apparent, is that in all the reviews I read, very few deal with pillion comfort to any great extent. Even with the new Trumpet Sprint, which is described as a VFR beater, as a sport tourer type, where you'd think pillion comfort was more of an issue, it's hardly been mentioned at all..

the gf doesn't mind the pillion seat on the 'Ace, and can easily go over an hour, to an hour and a 1/2 without a break..

in thinking about pillion comfort, it looks like i shoud be considering VRFs, Duc ST3s and similar more tourey Sport tourers, than sporty sport tourers.. the current batch of "sport" bikes are completely useless for pillions.

I'm doing Wales from Cambridge next weekend (although the gf isn't with me on this occasion) but we will be doing Bordeaux in August I think, and North Yorkshire in September, not to mention a weekend in wales prolly in July...

The Ace is an idea bike for fast touring, but can't seem to find anything currently on the market that can match it for speed, and comfort, both for me and the pillion.

Ayone got any other suggestions as to what would rival the 'ace for this sort of criteria?

I was on the back of a Fazer 600 last week, and it was really comfortable. The arms ached a bit from holding on with the acceleration, but there was no numbness in the backside at all. The VFR 750 left me aching after 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour.

Try the Fazer thou?

How about the CBR 600F it is pretty much the Honda version of the Thunderace.

Dont know if the performance will be much diffrent though.

Huge difference in performance between the Ace and a 600. My wife has similar problems on the Ace, but regular breaks sort it out. I agree the current crop of 'sports' are not built for pillions really: if she struggles on the ace, no point even thinking about one of them! How about a Busa? maybe a BMW (free pipe and slippers) or you could go for a GSX 1400 or XJR.

Personally I do not want to move away from sports bikes atm My advice would be to get a few test rides and sit on a few.

she doesn't struggle.. I reckon I'd fancy a stop myself after an hour and a half non-stop....

like I said, I've only had the 'ace a couple of months.. so aren't thinking about replacing it for a while, but you know how it is.. you just can't help looking, and in doing so, there's not a lot out there that cater for two-up riding.

the CBR is a bit perch-like in the pillion dept, and I Love the grunt of the 1000cc mill Smile

Aprillia Futura seems to be a decent bet Very Happy

by the time I come toi replace the ace, I'll prolly be able to afford one Very Happy

What about something like a ZZ-R 1200 or a Blackbird?

The blackbirds can hussle through the corners afaik. Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Have you thought about a big triumph like a sprint or daytona, never been on one but they look like they have plenty of room.
