PostPosted: 08:25 - 11 Sep 2008    Post subject: Motorcycle Tax HELP!!! Reply with quote

Hi Guys.
Ive recently taken out insurance on my bike shich was SORN but now fixed and ready for the road.
I insured it 2 days ago but its still not on the MID (askmid.com) and i still havent got any document through.
Ive called them yesterday and they said the vehicle is insured but can take time to get onto the MID and the papers are in the post.
I therefor cannot get tax as i have no documents and im not on the MID yet.
How can i tax my bike? i need it for transport to work and im fully insured but have wasted 2 days of my insurance being stuck with no tax.
This whole "you need insurance to get tax" thing is a waste of space.
Any idea's??

Thanks

Can't you tax it online?

That checks the database, but isn't MID a different one.

you could get the insurance company to fax you a certificate of insurance. i've done this in the past and the post office accepted it.
best bet is to call your insurer. hopefully they will have some procedure in place for this.

Its a 57 plate so no MOT needed.
Ill try the fax thing but the post office arnt meant to accept a photocopy or fax, usually the genuine thing only.
The MID is what the online and phone tax thing checks for insurance, tried both and failed twice Sad
To un-SORN it i just need to tax it, dont think i need a form. just get added to the system again.

That's why when I take insurance out I take it out for the policy to start 3 days in advance so not to waste any of it while waiting for the documents to arrive.

just make a false insurance certificate up in word, i did this when i needed tax on an un-mot'd car to get my private reg off.

as soon as the plate was on retention i chopped it in.

go in the middle of the lunch hour when its busy and they wont care or check.

(edit, thought about this over lunch it had mot but was going to expire)

It's not fraud if you do actually have valid insurance, is it?

Yes because your still making your own fake cover note.

You can have a full driving license but still be done for fraud if you make and use a fake one. By the way i read his post, i got the idea he didn't have insurance when he taxed the non MOT'd vehicle.

you are correct i did not and had no need for a car with half an engine sitting in my garage.

problem came in that i need the reg off it before the mot expired, but you need tax to get a reg off, no insurance means no tax. faked cert, bought tax, got plate off, chopped tax in, car never moved from its 4 axel stands (yes it is illegal and fraud but hey-ho)

if i was desperate and needed a car and had valid everything but tax i'd chance it, most they will say is no, if they query it says its from on online only company etc.

i was crapping it mind but glad i got away with it Smile

Who the hell are you with? That's bloody quick.

I took my policy out on the Sunday for the 5th of June (my birthday) and it came on the day.

Well, 1st Quote only send electronic copies it seems now as I've requested a hard cop on several occasions recently, recieved one, though not with the latest amendments on it.

The post office quibbled a bit, but it looked far more "Genuine" than the faxed cover note I have for my car...

When I needed to get tax, main post office in Crewe wouldnt accept my printed certificate of insurance but I took it to a small village one and they hardly looked at it and I got my tax.

Also, if you want, carry all the documents you need to get tax including some sort of word document that looks like insurance. If you do get stopped by the police, then you can say you are on your way to get tax and your more likely to get let off.

Your insurance company should be able to email you something a bit official looking to print off.
