Is there a legal age for a pillion, I just had my 5 yr old sat on the back when the bike was on the centre stand and he was able to reach the rear pegs, and I just wondered wether there was a minimum age too, to be able to ride on the back, as well as reaching the pegs? (not that I would risk taking him on the back).

my 11 yr old rides on the back but she has the sense to hold on.

Thats pretty insane when you think about it, I have seen some 3 year olds bigger than my lad and I bet they could reach the pegs.

They were talking about making a minimum age of 16 (I think it was) for pillion.

That would piss off my 11 yr old. 16 is a bit excessive.

Bit unclear cos it's all in legal jargon and I've only glanced at it. also not sure if this is a proposal or a law now. See what you think. Thumbs Up

There're too many bikes where noone larger than a 10 year old would fit vaguely comfortably on the pillion anyway. Very Happy I think requiring parental consent for people under the age of 14 is reasonable, but 17 is ridiculous. You can ride a bike yourself at 16, but can't get a pillion without going and asking your ma first? Confused
