I've got my CBT and have had a few 125's before, AR125, MTX125, NS125.

I'm now looking to do my test (about time, too) and have my eye on two bikes, one is a '98 RS125, the other a '98 TSR125.

Which of the bikes would be more suitable for the test, i would like the RS of course as i plan to go on the sports bike route and not so much the trail bike route. I've heard of examiners not allowing people to sit their test on RS125's or similar bikes as they can't prove that they're restricted. The TSR would be good as it's a higher riding position, more manouverable, and the examiner would probably be more leanient as i'm on a trail bike and not a sporty number. What would you go for? as i'll be getting a new bike after my test anyway.

Another thing, do you need to be accompanied by an instructor on your test day, i mean can i just book the test myself and go myself or do i need to arrive with an instructor? The reason i ask is i plan to sit my test asap to really know what i need to improve on and find out what the test is like. It might seem a bit backwards but you never know, i could pass Laughing

If you plan to just get a 125 for the test then sell it, get a cheap CG or SR. They will be easier to use on U turns etc.

To your other question. No you don't need an instructor with you, you are riding a 125 with your CBT. You only need one with you if your doing the big test.

cheers!

well if i get the trail bike and find myself doing a lot of off-roading then i'll probably keep it as a second bike so i'm very much swayed into getting the trail bike!...

then i can get a test booked! Razz

You can book your own test and turn up, Im not sure about proving the restriction but you can get a certificate for that I believe.

They wont judge you on the type of bike you turn up on but at the end of the day you will need a bike thats going to give you the best chance of passing. Having oven an RS125 for six months before my test Im glad I didnt have to do the turn in the road on it! If you are just doing the 125 test you could probably hire a CG from a local instructors place or even buy one and then sell it straight away!

good luck either way!

Wink
