OK, bought the ZX6R last week from them. Very happy with the bike, less so with their service.

It is a bit old and high mileage, so was not expecting anything pristine, but this is what has happened...

Put a deposit down and agreed to pick up a week later after they'd serviced it. Full service were the words used. And they'd give it a new front tyre as existing one was totally knackered.

Picked it up and rode off (with new front). Then noticed that the front brake was soft. Went back and the guy had a look at it, inspected the pads (in front of me in the workshop) and showed me it had loads of pad left. He said if it needed bleeding then it would firm up by being pumped, and it didn't.

However, when I got it home I pumped it and it did firm up. Ok. Then after a day's riding noticed the chain was waaaaay loose, slapping on the swingarm loads and at a constant low speed the bike bucks forwards and back.

Then noticed that the right indicator was flashing double speed and that one of the tail lights was out - probably linked problem.

So, I rang the guy and told him all this and he was apologetic and told me to bring the bike in on saturday, which I am going to do.

I said I was also concerned that if basic things like brake bleeding and chain tension hadn't been checked, how could I be sure that important things like valve clearances and carb balancing had been done? Don't worry, we'll sort it - Ok, I'm disappointed, but cool with that.

So . . . assuming they did actually do the service, I reckon they may have not tightened the chain because it is so loose that there is not enough room left on the swing-arm to adjust it properly before the rear wheel would fall off.

I reckon that if this is the case, they need to supply me with a new chain (and, presumably, sprokets), as they can not make the bike safe without one.

What do we think?

Anyone had any experience with Daytona Ruislip?

Should add that they came down from £2900 to £2500. Maybe this is their way of saving what they lost on the price.

Any input greatfully appreciated.

Luke

If the chain moves side to side alot (e.g. able to touch the swing arm easily) and the chain adjusters are some way back (over 2/3)then I would ask for a new chain and new sprockets and ask them to completely check over the bike again. Remember that bulbs blow though.

As for your legal position, you are totally in the right. "Not fit for purpose" etc, that even applies if a dealer says a 2000000 mile Aprilia RS50. If it is within a few months then you should have no problem at all.

Bunch of cowboys! See you should have bought my bike instead, it's not perfect but it's in perfect running order!

As for the front brakes, expect problems with them, they are a nightmare to set up properly. When they are working right they are great but sometimes lack feel...

I would also hate to see them charged with manslaughter.
