I passed my test today at 4:10 PM. I am now rather pleased with myself. Razz

I had 3 minor errors, 1 for pulling off and having to put my foot down because of an uneven surface and 2 for not pulling far enough forwards at a set of right turn filter arrow lights.

Gonna get a nice fat engined machine now. Thumbs Up

I'm looking at a few bikes actually, can't quite decide. I have too many options...

ZZR600 - Low insurance, quite fast (apparently). Handling isn't too bad either. Probably about 96/97

CBR600F - I've always had a Honda, and the 600 seems like a good starter (big) bike. 99/2000 maybe.

Hornet 600 - If I drop it, it will not matter! (So much). Similar performance to the CBR so I've been told. I don't like the bandit much at all, so that's a no no. 1997 onwards, depends on mileage.

Old ratty GT550 - Or something simialr. Old and ratty Razz won't matter what happens to it, can leave it out in the rain and parts will be about 3p each. Also, £500 for a tidy one. Mileage not really a concern.

GSXR750 - Now, this one is coming highly recommended by a friend of mine who has a 1992 model, which I DO quite like, but I'm not sure if I should get one. I love the bends and twisties, don't get me wrong, but is this one too much for me right now? I'm going from an NSR125 up to a 750 if I get this one, wise move? Hmm...

A bike will only go as fast as the rider makes it. If you are sensible and show restraint there is no reason why not to get the 750. Get crash bungs on it though because the extra weight may catch you out Thumbs Up

I'd say it'd be better to get a GSXR600. Slightly less of the raw power, and easier to handle in a tight spot (IMO).

Probably a lot cheaper on the insurance too?

Come on now Joe, you're making it easy for me. Mr. Green

I'll have to check the insurance on the 600 then, Mr Suzuki.

I'll consider it if it makes THAT much difference. Thumbs Up

I went from DAS (never ridden a bike) to a 600RR. Never regretted it for a second. In fact the opposite is true. Can't imagine being without my bike now.

There're some big differences in cost between all those. The GT will cost peanuts, but from all of the reviews I've read, its old design shows through.

I won't want to hop straight onto a 750 once I've done my DAS, but that's partly cost. The 750 will rape you on insurance. The rest of the 600's go like stink too, beware of the CBR and Hornets small tank range though.

For big mileage, I'd want the ZZR (or maybe the GT), it's really comfortable and has a sensible riding position.

Hmm, now see, I like the idea of a good tank range. The thing is, what does the ZZR really handle like? I love slamming the bike into bends as fast as it can go, I love getting my toe down and blasting out of bends. I know the ZZR is a lot more powerful than my current moped but will the handling be on par? I suppose if it's only marginally worse handling then I'll go for it. Thumbs Up

From what I've read, you'll get 200+ miles from a ZZR tank, but be struggling to get much over 120 miles out of either Honda.

Any of those are so capable of cornering that should you try that you are highly likely to rapidly find some obstruction in the road coming into view after it is too late to do anything about it.

All the best

Ooh, OK, that sounds good. It will be nice to have something that doesn't require full throttle all the bloody time. It was awesome on the CB500 that I had my lessons/test on. Twisting the throttle in top gear at 50 and getting up to 70 in no time was just lovely. Smooth and powerful compared to the noisy racket of my NSR. Rolling Eyes

Don't worry Keith, I'm not a lunatic. Smile
