Hi all, got a cbr 600 thats quite nice, but it wouldnt happily power wheely before, so ive bought a different race end can, k+n oil filter and im contemplating a k+n air filter.
(to clarify none have been fitted yet as bike is off road)
Now i know the oil filter will do jack tbh, bit of a placebo more then anything. The can will be loud, tarty and possibly smooth out the midrange so the throttle can snap open and the revs might match abit smoother, so it should power wheelie hopefully.
But my question is an Air filter, everything they say about it mechanically does make sense. However theres two schools of thought on the effects of fitting one. One - that it makes your bike run lean and explode with standard jets, Two- absolutely nothing bad comes of it as long as you havent got a modded airbox.
Which do you lot subscribe too? Also how much is getting a bike dynojetted professionally... or conversely, how hard is it for a numpty to do?
Personally id like to get the bike jetted and tuned now even though its stock, as its running a tad odd. But then again im very paranoid. Also with the can id like to get it jetted so it might gain something from it. And then if i got an air filter id like it jetted to not die...
But for £40 quid a filter, it might just be 'bolt-on power'?
Whats your thoughts, to jet or not? ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

Hi
The oil filter will do nothing at all for performance.
The can is as likely to totally screw up the mid range and make it run lean at the top as it is to improve things.
Filter might help slightly.
To have any real benefit it will all need setting up on a dyno. A dynojet kit is ~£100 plus the time to fit and the time on a dyno to set it up (it is not a bolt on item). ____________________ Traxpics, track day and racing photographs - Bimota Forum - Bike performance / thrust graphs for choosing gearing |

Defenately agree with that, some minor maintainance tht will cost no more than new oil maybe, allthough carb balancer £40 not all that expensive and an investment worth makeing, only takes half an hour if that...
The valve clearences on my bike were way out, puting them right must have got back 30% of the power, seemed like that at least..
New spark plugs will not do any harm either
A new sprocket will only cost about £25?
All together (depending one how much maintainance has been done) will probably make more difference than £400 worth of parts and work...
Thing with exhausts and filters allthough they are usually the first thing to get changed they dont make their moneys worth of difference (appart from sounding better usually!) in fact just swaping the exhaust usualy makes things worse.. ____________________ >RidingSkills<->Tech Tips<->MyBikes< |

At the CBR600 drag day, lots of peoples bikes went on the dyno.
Most of the ones that made the most power were the ones that hadn't been touched. |

Bendy i can believe that.
As for full race systems they do fuck up your power if you dont change jetting, but i thought slip ons aslong as they were bought for your bike dont kill it?
As for gearing, i have got that on the cards later on, maybe upping the back 2 or dropping the front one (or both ) but i cant afford the consumption as it is now, let alone running at higher revs for the same speeds.
Also i KNOW it'll get me done (im sure lots of coppers let you off for 80mph wheelies)
How can manufacturers get away with saying things like K+N oil filters increase throttle response etc etc? IF they do dick all. Im not expecting to double my top speed or anything, just to smooth it down abit.
As far as i am aware my valve clearences werent done that long ago, plus thats a big job on the cbr... mega bucks. For the extra 5bhp or what have you, id rather not.
Ill fit the can and see what happens, if i dont like what it does to the power ill get an air filter and get it jetted. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

When don't you just clutch wheelies up? Much cheaper.
Gearing is the only thing I'd touch.
Even with all those expensive mods on/done, 3bhp more won't make your bike power wheelie. Gearing will help... |

A- Clutching up is fun, but i still like power wheelies, feel more comfortable and look less showy offy... its hard to explain. Horses for courses etc.
B- Its not about power, its about delivery. Smoother it spins up and the easier it revs, the quicker it will put down its power. Honestly small changes in delivery affect abilty to wheelie. Hence why saggy chains stop wheelies, because the 'moment' is too long, or something such. Either way it will aid.
C- Yes gearing will help, but i think it might help a tad too much.... I like my licence ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...
