Ok, been wanting one of these lids for some time now and since my lid has been dropped once, ive decided to buy a new one, and me being "between" jobs, i cant afford a new simpson one, so ive found this one:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=72278&item=4549136422&rd=1#ebayphotohosting

Ive been speaking to the guy and he says that 55 pound inc postage will do him., what do you think?

Steve.

I think buying a second hand lid is a very bad idea, especially from ebay where you can't inspect it. Even if you could have a look at it before buying you wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if it has had an impact. Stay away Thumbs Down

Hi

It is a 15+ year old helmet that was never UK road legal, and has an unknown history.

£5.50 would be over priced.

All the best

Keith

Please tell me you weren't going to buy that helmet and wear it. It probably stopped working years ago.

Buy it to look at. Laughing

Dunno why you'd want to get a dubious helmet like that when you can get a new helmet for £30-50. Sure they might not look so tarty, but they'll be new and you'll know where they've been.

did,nt they have a problem with peoples necks snapping in crashs with the early ones due to the shape of the back of the helmet

Not sure, but they were mainly designed for car use. Don't think the chin bar is up to protecting you from any kind of real impact.

Anyway, the proper Star Wars ones were a lot better looking.

I would suspect your current bashed lid would be more protective than that Simpson.

All the best

The simpson lids failed kitemark tests on peripheral vision. The lids themselves are very safe, it was simply the fact that the depth of the eye aperture made seeing to the sides quite hard. They were designed for the US touring cars, not road use.

Had a look around Keith, can't find the lid I think you're talking about. It was one of the early Bandit variants iirc, don't remember ever seeing one in the flesh over here though, just in assorted photos. Found these though, certainly lids with character.

Hi

Spent a while trying to find a pic a few months back with no success.

For those who do not remember them they were styled like a Star Wars stormtroopers helmet.

All the best

Keith

Just bought myself THIS LID.

He's said i've got 30 days to return it if it's not up to my standards.

If there's any damage on it at all its going back or if the postage is huge it can be used as a pillion / arseing about lid.

Just hope FM haven't changed their sizing....

I doubt it can be any worse than my nearly SIX year old FM lid. Being retired as it needs a new visor that will cost 1/2 as much as a new lid.

l sore this pic of a streetfightered kawasaki KR1 a while ago with a helmet with a lamp inside it as the headlight might look good with a simpson helmet on a Suzuki Bandit. Smile
