I have been looking into T120 engine tuning possibilities as the building of a flat tracker style triton is something i really want to do and need to earn the money for.

I have seen centre plug conversions which mean the plug is moved to the top of the chamber to aid combustion.

However i have also seen a twin plug conversion available that keeps the normal 45ยบ or whatever the angle is and positions one at the same angle on the other side of the head. This is meant to aid accelleration and reduce emssions due to a more effective ignition of combustable material.

Does this actually work or not? I am in two minds myself!

Hey man, there is NO additional power gained from twin spark plugs per cylinder. Twin spark plugs are used to improve burn efficiency which reduces the amount of emissions created. They are also used to reduce the amount of power required by the coils and therefore reduces the heat generation within the coils and increases the life.

I don't know what engine types relate to this as much, but some you cannot use!

I know it's not a gain in power. If anything i have read it can make throttle response a little better. Engine is an old 50-60s design twin, that will be converted to electronic ignition.

I know a guy who races a Triumph trident with twin plugs. it does help it to run better but puts reliability out the window as it will blow ignition units every few months.

The twin spark plugs offer a more reliable burn efficiency which could make the throttle response smoother than normal. I don't know whether the old 50-60's twin will help much with the twin sparks but I may be wrong, if it does blow ignition units as the Triumph Trident wasnt a twin, might be worst or might be better in Will's case? Confused

You got any more info Will, I may be able to elaborate if you tell me specifics...

Don't have the engine yet it's a project i am going for, more fun than a modern jap bike and it will go up in value!

T120 Engine, 650 twin using pushrod design and seperate camshafts, the head has the spark plug to the side on both cylinders, now i can either get a conversion blanking this and having the absolute top of the head drilled and tapped to take a smaller 10mm spark plug. This will be better than standard and is done by Dresda.

Or The Cylinder Head Shop do a conversion that places a second plug opposite to that of the original placing on both combustion chambers on the head, like here.

i've seen a triumph done up for eighth of a mile spints in my local bikeshop it had the head on backwards for the ram air effect straight into the carb mouths , it actually looked really cool and the owner reckoned it was well worth doing for a couple of extra bhp

I am still reading up on it all, i need to talk to someone like Dave Degan sometime but thats if i can find him. As for tuned triumph twins there used to be a pair of twin bonnie engines in a drag bike called The Hobbit.
