First of all guys i would like to say hello as i am new to your forums.

I have Just bought a old NS 125FG (D reg) it has been used by a middle aged man to get 4 miles to work and back everyday so has very low mileage. the Frame and panels on the bike are very tatty but the engine appears to be sound starting first time every morning.
The engine performance is good in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears reaching up to 55-60mph however as soon as you change into 4th and 5th the bike runs at 50mph and will not get any quicker without gearing down? The bike seams to have a non standard exhaust on at the moment and still has original air box any ideas on how to get the baby moving top end would be grateful?
Thanks

are you keeping it in the powerband when changing up to 4th as not in the powerband it wont have the power to pull it. try keeping the revs about 7,000 rpm and see if it pulls in 4th and 5th.

Hi

Yep, sounds like it is derestricted. The airbox is fairly restrictive on these but it should indicte high 80s with just the exhaust done.

What you will probably find is that there is good power above about 7000rpm, and next to nothing below that. As suggested above, make sure you keep the revs up as in the high gears at 6000rpm or so it will just loose speed.

All the best

Keith
