I don't know how many of you remember the tv version of Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, but one of the characters had a pair of black sunglasses which went completely opaque when confronted by danger.

Last night I experienced one of those moments....

My girlfriend lives down a country lane, with a sharp right hand bend at the top which results in a 90% change in direction.

Most nights I go through at 40ish, but last night about 1am in the morning I decided to go a bit faster....

So, there I am approaching the bend at 55mph (oh and by the way I'm still wearing my black visor, forgot to change it ), a touch of counter-still and away I go. Straight into the oncoming lights of a van. Luckly he stayed in his lane, all I could do was crank it over even more and use his lights as a guide to where the road was. Shocked Shocked

That was the first time I ever got my feet scrapping the road other than on a roundabout.

The funny thing being, I'm now much more confident of my bikes capabilites than I was before, I wonder how many of you have had a similar defining moment.

I have that same difficulty any dark night, with a standard visor, no tinting! I can't see very well in the dark and the flies on my visor are great for flashing headlights all over my vision spectrum!

Scarey as crap, I hate riding in thedark and try not too!

although, I just about managed to get my knee downfor the first time after a year of not doing it, last night in the dark on a cold island! Thumbs Up

Umm, why are you riding at night with a black visor?
Sounds like an accident waiting to happen...

i tend to look at car headlights in the dark so a tinted visor might be a good idea for me!!

I once drove the car with sunglasses on at night, it made me feel like i was in a video game!

Yes, I'm a muppet for wearing a dark visor at night,
But for me the experience was valuable as I was able to get my bike around a turn which I would normally back off, going into (even in daylight).

Will I ever do it again - NO Laughing Laughing

...

I've gone about learning my bike's limits in eactly the same way. I'll come into a corner too hot, sometimes WAY too hot, and have to lean it over far more than I'm comfortable with. Scraped the left peg a couple times and the right once like that. And then I go and fall off while sitting almost bolt-upright in a 30mph corner. Evil or Very Mad

similar to yours but in the day, around some lanes i always fly down with high hedges, had to rag the bike over from a 45 degree angle, suprised i didnt high side, now i realised the walls of my tires are just as good as the tops Twisted Evil
made me abit more confident, but taught me not to go so mad round bends.
