As per title, broke down and hour ago, it appears to be something to do with the clutch.

Almost complete loss of drive regardless of revs or gear. Engine still working, no funny noises etc any ideas?

Also the bike is stuck in another part of town. I have no roadside recovery, would I be able to get some and use it straight away?

Look up your Yellow Pages, there are usually some recovery places you can pay on the spot for one pickup.

Cheers bend, just did that and a couple of cheeky calls round turned up very little. From one chap who was like "ooh a bike, that'll be £100 plus mileage" to someone who just laughed and said he didn't do them.

Also phoned up the RAC and they would cover me from today with an an emergency call out charge of £69. Aye pull the other one Middle Finger

So Nowich Union website, got myself personal cover, starting immediately. Never had to tell any porky pies or tick any boxes asking if the bike was in working condition because they never asked. Its actually cover for the car but im covered for any vehicle I have.

Going to call it in tomorrow morning, no point in taking it to the garage tonight and leaving it outside then having to make a trip up in the morning to see if they'll fix it.

Looking at my Haynes manual it appears as if the clutch isn't disengaging fully, hence the ability to change gears without touching the lever and the near complete lack of drive. Does the engine need to be dropped out for this to be fixed? Big Job

have you adjusted the cable to as much as it can go, it could be that the plate have got worn down a lot!
when my clutch went i was able to get get a little bit of drive, by adjusting the cable, but then it started to slip at around 6K in was enough though to get me to a garage for it to be repaired.
hope it is of some use

Hi

Surprised it has gone so suddenly. Normally you get a fair bit of warning with the clutch slipping under high loads first.

Double check the chain and make sure the front sprocket has not come off or lost all the splines (although I would expect this to make some noise), or even your sprocket does not look like this.

All the best

Keith

Will try that before I call in the heavies, when yours went did it just go? Mine was fairly sudden, noticed it at the top of the road, totally went 400 yards later.

yeah mine was very sudden! Rolling Eyes Embarassed
was trying to do a burnout and wasn't given it enough beans, result i wore a hell of a lot of plate down in a very quick time! so if you wearn't trying to do something stupid like that then probibly not that.
was there any noises when it happened or did it just give?
even so try the cable trick could save you some £££'s

Cheers WN, beginning to piece some things together now, does sound like what you describe. I was hooning at a BBQ last night and did a twirly burnout on my mates drive. Maybe a mile before it went I was slipping the clutch at fairly high revs getting the power on and when it finally went I had just changed gear +- 5 seconds before hand. To be honest with you I can't hear bugger all when Im on the bike because the can is anti social.

Was the replacement clutch plate expensive to get done?

sounds kind of simular, cost me about £80 parts and labour, though the parts where fairly cheap as the divvy is not too high performance Laughing
if you feel mechanically minded i am sure you can do it for yourself, i don't have a garage Crying or Very sad so had to do it at a garage.
what bike do you have? plus remember if the clutch has definatly gone you should change the oil as you will have bits of plate swimming around in the sump.

GSX-R 600, its due its big service so I'm going to stick it in and have everything done, might aswell have a working bike at the end of the day.

Got nearly 14,000 miles on the clock so its getting closer to its valve clearances check.

Hi

Yamaha clutches are easy to do, definatly on the Divvy. Only Suzuki clutch i have done is the 1200 Bandit which is a bit of a pain due to needing to undo one large nut in the centre of the clutch.

All the best

Keith
