Hi,

I'm picking up a bike on Saturday which I've bought from a shop. It's a 2001 GS500. The advert said it had been restricted to 33bhp but the guy said that the restrictor had been removed. Is there any easy way to check or do I just take his word for it? And if it is still on, is it fairly easy to remove?

Cheers, D

Very easy to remove.

Well, if you've got the balls, you could always do a speed test. A restricted gs should do 90 and not really much more. The pull should be pretty good higher up the rev range.

Thankfully, the gs(if its newer) is a lot easier to work on than my er5 so its easier to check the inlets for the restriction washers.

The gs500 starts to cut out at 90, on full power it will slowly go upto 110.

try racing a 1.1 litre fiesta from the lights. If he's right up your ass the whole time, the bikes fine. If he over takes you, you either have a restricted bike or a restricted right hand! Laughing

Well, I took it up the A1 from London to Peterborough. In 6th gear with throttle all the way back it struggled to do more than 85, slowly creeped to 90. There were two of us on it (about 20kgs weight) and it was windy but still I thought it should do more than that. Probably a good bet that the restrictor is still on?

Sounds about right for a restricted bike.

A full power GS500 should easily beat a 1.1 Fiesta. So really, if you see a 1.1 Fiesta slowly disappearing in your mirrors, then the bike is not restricted Wink

Think a 1.1 Fiesta top end would be around the 90-95 mark, with wild vibrations Laughing

No way, a 1.1 fiesta should see 110 I would have thought.

That's the annoying thing on a restricted bike, the chav mobiles you thrashed earlier on come past laster on.

Very much doubt it. About 90 flat out.

All the best

Wallace and gromit car mats and everything!

Ford Fiesta 1.1 =

Top speed: 148 km/h, 92mph
0-60 = 14 secs
Horse Power = 49

Really think that can hit 110 without driving it off a cliff?

And as for the Corsa, that is 100cc larger than the Fiesta 1.1 and also has an extra 4 cylinders, hence the 16V.

I think I worked it out right anyway lol

Fiesta has 4 cylinders, and 2 valves per cylinder = 8 vavles.

So Corsa must have 8 cylinders, with 16 valves?

If I'm wrong then I'll shut up hehe

LMAO V8 Fiesta. Cool Laughing

We had a 1.25l fiesta here at work for a bit. I managed to get it to indicate 115mph down a hill on the A1 before it started to make a wierd whining sound so i let off a bit Cool Confused Laughing

Suspect it was probably only just over 100mph though with the massive amount of over-reading at that speed.
