After i pass my test i plan on getting a bigger older bike in the hope that it will be less likely to be stolen. I want something around £600ish so i've been looking at the CB-1 and the ER-5.

I prefer the CB-1 (400cc) for it's looks, the name (honda) and it's not the twin shock set-up.

Anybody got a CB-1 that can comment on it? are they good bikes compared to the ER-5?

I really wanted to get a DR350 and supermoto it but whether i build a little hut for it or not it's still a lot more likely to get stolen than an ER-5 or CB-1 is whether it's garaged or not.

Anyway what's better in a whole for reliability, looks, power, handling etc etc ??

CB500 or Cb-1 yup.

CB500 is considered by most as being the best commuter, naked type bike. I'd agree, it's Honda, you can't go wrong. Wink

CB-1 anyday mate. has an inline 4 bullet proof engine (a re-tuned CBR 400 lump) which is a proper little screemer with a 13.5k redline and gear driven cams. Handles nicely with a 140 section rear, is a mono shock like you said. Cheep to run, £7.50 normally lasts 110miles. low(ish) insurance £400 tpft at 18yrs old. Has nice clip on bars and looks the better of the two easily. Thumbs Up

Id not worry bout twin shocks-they are easier to work on and cheaper to replace if they go pop so they have advantages over monoshock and in smaller bikes like these there is no real benefit in monoshock. Unless your purely talking looks.

Both are good, the ER5 is reliable enough but the honda will be better finished. The ER5 will be more relaxed being a twin with more cc's.

ER-5 hands down simply because CB-1s are imports.

ER-5s are ridiculously easy to get parts for, are plenty quick enough for a learner, and are very very chuckable.

But then I've never ridden a CB-1, I did look at buying one a few months back, but decided against it, simply because parts were a mission to get a hold of.

I may be looking into upgrading to a CB-1 next year. Look quite nice, not sure on performance though. I should have thought they might be quite quick. 33bhp exact I think so ideal for A2. Cool

That is one true thing, infact all Kawasakis are amazingly easy to get parts for, there are so many breakers who specialise in Kwak parts and theres also Cradley Kawasaki who have nearly every Kawasaki part for every Kawasaki instock!

As for the topic go for whatever bike you come accross at the time at the right price, no point limiting yourself on one bike. Also asking peoples views doesn't always work out. Like mine, I once owned an ER-5 and it wasn't the greatest bike I've owned and had a few problems with it but there are people on here who love theirs and theirs have been amazingly reliable.
Same goes for any bike really!

I own a ER-5 but they get very boring very quickly.

I would go for the honda, it could prove more fun.

They're essentially a CBR400 with the fairings off. Tiny but mighty. Smile

Ah right. I'm getting it confused with the Bros then. Still, the CB-1 is a nice bike. May look to upgrade to one later.

Cb-1 is a great bike, no problems to speak of, cheap to run and all that.

However the screaming 13k redline isn't to everyones tastes, bit of a hassle changing gear all the time as well.

Rolling Eyes

I was just pointing out the crapness of bat motorcycles, not the usefulness of the list

i do have a good choice of bikes but i want something cheap(ish) abround £600 or so.. basically as i don't want to have to worry too much about my bike being nicked and losing thousands of pounds and having to claim on insurance.

The CB-1 seems like a nice bike, cheap to buy, insure and run, looks damn nice IMO and i love high-revving engines.. the 8.5k redline in my old civic vti was great fun even though afterwards i bought a 300zx and it was faster but soooooo boring.

Plus, it's a Honda! Cool

I think i've fallen in love with the CB-1's, never seen one until today on Ebump! Makes me want my license bad!

yup i've been searching EBay for 400's, 500's and 600's - there's quite a choice for under £700 Smile

I'm still drawn to the CB-1 for some reason, just something about it that looks 'hard' like the new CB1300 *drool*
