This is my current bike in not so great nick. Scratches and scuffs on every bit of plastic. Unnoticeable from 6 feet away, unavoidable close up. I don't notice them riding but it gives me a wee dent in my pride whenever I park up to a bike in pristine nick if you get me. Add to that the clutch has just went on it and I imagine quite a lot of other things are probably in store for it. Its my bike, fast as fuck, and Im just getting to know it.

While in getting my bike fixed I spotted this brand spanking new FZ6 and my jaw dropped. All black 2005 bike. Mine for only £2200 trade in. Im in love.

£90 a month for 2 years.

I actually don't think I can resist and will be paying a wee visit on wednesday.

Its 4,699.00 OTR, but the way they negotiate these things is they do a paper excercise and up the amount they give you for the trade in bike to more than it deserves... provided its still within a margin of profit.

Salesmen and their targets. God love them.

I do love the bike for all the time I have been on it - it is stonkingly good fun, hideousley loud and attention seeking. Like me. I want to treat myself to something new though. And I actually stood and stared at this bike for a good 45 minutes after I put my bike in. Refused all offers for help just stood and gawked at it.

Are the scratches and dents from you?

Are you likely to put those same scratches and dents in another bike?

Personally I have a lot more respect for someone that turns up on a battered bike than a clean shiny bike; you know the one about the battered bike will care more about riding than posing; and that's what bikes are about to me.

Also you loose a lot less if you crash on a pre-crashed bike Smile.

Really don't understand you two. You have perfectly good bikes (except the clutch - cheap/easy to fix anyway) but you want a brand new shiny one, only because yours has a few scratches on it? Confused

Seriously no point. Who cares about a few scratches, and if I'm right in thinking both of those are your first bikes??? Which means you'll probably drop them (most people do).

Gsxr600 will a far more fun bike than that naked thing - it's a high spec bike. As is the VFR, they are amazing little bikes!

Not having a rant, please don't think that I am, it's just so very different to how I would think.

Also you loose a lot less on a pre-owned bike in terms of money!

Nah the sracthes and dents are pretty much all from the previous 6 owners. I have a knack for getting stone chips though Confused Good point about putting scratches and dents in a new bike though. Would be my scratches and dents though Wink

Would there be any benefit in my learning to ride on a road bike such as the FZ6 as opposed to the GSXR 600?

wouldn't have thought so, though it depends what sort of riding you want to do. GSX-R is pretty extreme, if you are getting bored of it, get on a track day if you haven't already

It will make you a relatively lazier rider I suspect. The GSXR is quite 'sharp' with a revy engine, while the FZ is going to bland and dull in comparison I suspect.

The revvy engine on the GSXR means you have to work it to get the best out of it, while it doesn't make so much difference on the FZ. I suspect the GSXR will feel more 'rewarding' when you're pushing it as well; more feed back and control hopefully.

Not entirely so, the scratches are something I know I could get rid of but do contribute to my present frame of mind. Lest we forget im not talking about trading in my GSXR 600 for a newer cleaner Sports 600, im talking about a switch to a different style of bike that I never fancied at all until I seen this bike in person. I never particulary liked it in the magazines either.

Also I want to be the one that gets to christen the bitch Wink

Passed my restricted test a week ago today. Im not bored of the GSXR itself, it is "fucking immense" to ride. The speed is addictive, considering that the fastest I had ridden before then was 65mph. Its just this bloody all black FZ6 has thrown a spanner into the works. Cannae stop thinking about it if you know what I mean.

Maybe, possibly, but you seem ok with the Gixer. I mean they both are 600s so they will both spit you off without a care in the world if you don't pay attention and treat them right.

You always take it easy on a first bike for a good few months anyway.

It's up to you (I can't remember if you're on 33bhp or not). I wouldn't recommend a gsxr6 as a first bike but it has been done. Some people don't come off thier 600s sports, some do. Most come off their first bike anyway, whatever it is.

Vfr400 is a fine first bike, no real issues with that. I'd keep it untill you are really ready for a new, expensive and shiny bike.

its like when you go out on the piss, knowing full well that your beautiful fun missus is at home, but in the pub something else grabs your eye and the only thing you want to do it ride that! Laughing
then when you wake up in the morning you feel very guilty about it!

/me stops being silly - bigamy is illegal in this country

You know that's not what I meant.

Seriously though, 400s a great bike. You'll learn a lot more on it, and appreciate it for that reason.

I sat on a fair few 400s and found none of them a good enough fit for me. Big torso, wee legs, built like a lock forward.
