I've been offered a Suzuki GS125 from 1986 with only 15000 miles, full service history for £400. Is this bad considering I'm planning on keeping the bike 6-9 months before doing a DAS. I'm worried that the age of the bike will mean it is unreliable. I'll be doing 15 miles to work through medium traffic

Hmm, 15,000 miles with full history and on a D plate (or whatever it is for '86). I can't see there being a problem with it really, as those kind of bikes are never really thrashed about and as long as it hasn't been offroad or anything then it should be OK. Check out all the bearings and stuff when you are looking at it though. Is it MoT'd? If not, then I wouldn't pay £400 for it to be honest. Otherwise, go for it, it's a good cheap bike. Thumbs Up Smile

If its all in good working order with an MOT then its worth the money.

haven't really had much to do with GS 125`s but if they are the same as the rest of the GS range the engines should be bullet proof.

Nothing wrong there.

My mate had a GZ125 marauder from brand new, put about 10k miles on it. After the initial service we changed the oil at about 6k, didn't do the filter. He sold it with about 9k on the clock, running sweet.

Tough engine. Just keep putting petrol in and change the oil occasionally.

When you remember to check the kill switch. Wink

To be honest I think people worry too much about age and milage on bikes. Fact is if it looks ok, sounds ok and goes ok don't worry about age and millage. Just keep on top of any potential problems and all will be well. Very Happy

I'm off to check it out this dinner time, 12 months tax and MOT so I guess it'll be ok. Got my CBT on Wednesday so should be an ideal run about.

Hi

From vague memories of when the GS was far more common, the engine is not bad but not as reliable as the old Honda single cylinder 4 stroke engines.

All the best

Best bike I ever had was an F reg. Started every time, never had to do anything to it (except the usual servicing).

Can't imagine you having any problems, and it's a good price. Thumbs Up

My GS is '97 and has 23,000 (hard miles) on the clock and by the sound of it, it still doesn't sound like its ever going to quit. Laughing

More down to millage and maintainance as to how good it will be.. you can utterly shag a bike beyond repair within 10 miles if you wanted to...

£400 is worth it assumeing its in full working order, even in a catostophic engine failure situation it would only cost £100 for a new one...

No such thing as too old, mine had its 23rd birthday last month and i'd imagine it will be going for a good long time yet!

Saying a single cylinder 125 won't have been trashed is a little optimistic. Smile But for town and twisty roads it should be fine. Large A roads and dual carriageways are a bit too much like hard work for the most part.
