Just wondering if anyone could help me.

I recently scored the barrel on my aprilia rs 125, so instead of replacing it with a 125cc barrel thought i might aswell get a 154cc barrel.

Does anyone know where i can get a 154cc barrel with piston from?

I know polini make one and there are some on ebay for £300 but that seems a bit steep for a barrel and piston or is that about right?

Also does anyone know the number so i can contact polini myself. Is polini based in the uk?

Cheers

Oh yeah i do have a full license before anyone says anything Thumbs Up

Save the money from the big bore kit and do a full bike test then you can ride what ever size you want

upgrade the oil pump first as that is why most of the aprila 125's go bang they get arse ragged and the oil isnt getting in fast enought!

Hi

About the going rate, and do not expect much more power. The big bore kits normally seem to be ported to give more mid range torque rather than extra top end power.

All the best

Keith

at this time of year i would guess you could flog the 125 pretty easily and get a bigger engined bike, remember you will need to tell the insurance company about the bigger bore kit anyway or no coverage so for the premium bump you could just get a 250 or possibly 400 4 stroke

good point are bored out 125s liable to go into a higher road tax class, its still something silly like £30 a year anyway, sods law i sold my 400 before they changed the rules and bought a 650 so have always had to pay the top rate Mad

The majority of people that I've seen with big bore RS125s (usually 170 etc) have had them go bang quite quickly.

Now this may be more down to the owner that the engine, but personally I'd probably avoid it.

no....

and the 170 kit...its actualy a 160 i think, and wheras the barrel is good quality, piston is shit, plus the extra stress put on a already tuned engine, no gooda.

just contact pj engineering..

If your going to get a 170 kit, make sure you buy a racing crank so that it can withstand the strain of power from the 170. Remember, the cranks are only designed for 125cc bores. Any larger, than the crank isnt going to last long. Same as any other bike.

But as Kickstart says, you won't notice much top end improvement. Personally, I wouldn't bother. As others have said, just save up for a larger capacity bike if your after extra power.

The Rotax race engines use smaller big end bearings! After all they are probably going to strip and rebuild it after less use than someone would do on the road while running it in.

All the best

Best bet when fitting a 170cc kit to a rs125 or a 180cc kit to a NSR125 is to remove the oil pump and run the bike on premix. But l,m not sure on the ratio but the bore kit manufacture should know.

also don,t forget to put a much bigger main jet in the carb.

Cheers for all the help but im more confused on what to do.

Basically i need a barrel and piston for the RS 125 as my barrel is scored. So i priced a 125cc barrel with piston up which is £200.

I then priced a 170cc barrel and piston which is £310. So i thought for the extar £110 i might as well go for the 170cc.

So my plan is just to stick the 170cc barrel and piston on without changing the crank or anything else in the bottm end of the engine.

DO I NEED TO CHANGE THE CRANK?

ALSO SOMEONE HAS SAID REMOVE THE OIL BOTTLE AND USE PREMIX WOULD THIS BE BETTER AND GIVE ME MORE RELIABILTIY?

SOMEONE ALSO SAID I WILL NEED TO CHANGE THE MAIN JET IN THE CARB, I WILL BE USING A DELORTTO 34MM CARB WOULD I NEED TO CHANGE ANYTHING ON THE CARB??

PJ engineering has been mention can someone please let me know the site.

Would be really grateful if all this could be cleared up for me, KICK START KEITH HEELLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!

Cheers all Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

You can probably get a replate done for less than that with a new piston, or for more than that a replacement barrel from PJ Engineering (https://www.prox.co.uk I think).

You do not need to, but the extra torque will shorten its life. Not sure what parts are available for the RS crank (from memory the race engines used a 20mm crank pin while the RS used a 22mm crank pin).

Might help in some way, but will also be fairly smoky. Also it makes it very easy to make a mistake and mix in insufficient 2 squeak oil and seize the engine.

Almost certainly. Partly for the increase in capacity, and also even more so if you run on premix 2 stroke oil instead of the automatic oiling system.

All the best

I think I remember saying that. Ok then not a new crank, but he may want to have it reconditioned at regular intervals. Wink
