Im looking to get my wheels for my RS 125 sand blasted.

Anyone got a rough idea on how much it costs for both wheels?

Also where do I take/send the wheels?

Cheers

Tecky

Neither..
If ya want the wheels blasted clean & looking totally spiffy ya use walnut shells (ground up, not whole walnuts...) or plastic media, anything else will pit the shit out of them, if ya gonna paint or powder coat em after ya MAY get away with glass bead blasting...
Newest thing I paid attention to was "aluminum shot blasting" which is a LOT different to steel shot blasting...

None of the above 3 options are cheap by *media cleaning* standards, but the results are worth the extra $$$

Why do you want to blast them? Chemical paint stripper would remove any paint on them and would be cheaper.

Glass bead blasting or vapour blasting (expensive but looks the shit) would be best if you really want to do it.

For non-ferrous metals vapour blasting is the best, it uses high pressure water with very small synthetic particles to blast off the top layer of material and leave a great finish.

For ferrous metals, fine-grade glass beading would be most effective without shredding the wheels.

Ive got the number of someone who can do vapour blasting (rare because the machine is expensive) and probably glass beading (ill check) in the Uxbridge (Mddx) area if you want it?

Good luck with it. Get the wheels powder coated when your done, it looks soooo nice (Got the number of someone to do that too)

Very Happy

I got quoted about £35 by a local company to blast and powder coat one wheel.

You can't shotblast wheels?? Eh? since when!

How many powdercoaters have you seen advertising "Real Walnut Shot!" Rolling Eyes Paid £20 a wheel for shotblasting and powdercoating.

Paintstripping takes ages.

Because, *shot* blasting is generic for steel or lead shot, not my fault they use the wrong term to describe what they do. Walnut cleaning isn't *shot* blasting even if the clueless wanker at the blasting co says it is..

£35 is a very good price but bear in mind if you want a really snazzy colour they may charge you more.

For a little more (about £50 in total, you could get them chrome plated Very Happy

Yeah I got something chromed and it was only about £20 more expensive than powder coat. One thing to bear in mind though is that it might look really odd on your bike. Crying or Very sad What looks good off could look shite on.

What colour is the bike? I would say that black or white bikes look good with chrome wheels but other colours (like Kawasaki green) look very strange.

Give us some pics before/after Thumbs Up
