Inspired by the BAB v's learner thread, I thought I'd share with you what happened at the weekend.

I met mum and dad at my grandmother's house with the gf, me on the ER-5 (ninja in the shop) and bird on the Fazer.

Dad has been vaguely interested in the idea of having a bike since I got mine, and has made numerous 'humourous' mention of his having a go.

'Sure dad, jump on the back'

'Why would I want to do that son, I've got a licence'

Hmm, yeah ok pops, from like 1913 when you were riding a 6cc steam powered penny farthing. Oh well, fuckit, lets see if he bites.

'Ok then pops, have Alex's helmet, you take the fazer, I'll take the ER-5 (I know, wrong way round) and we'll go around the block.'

So he gets all giddy and starts grinning - he is an exceedingly sensible man most of the time - like a school boy.

Helmet on, engine on - then I look down to see that with his 5.2" frame he can barely touch the floor. Plus the fact he is looking at the controls like he is straddling the star-ship enterprise. I was begining to think it was a bad idea already, and then he uttered the imortal words:

"How do you change gear on this thing?" Shocked

In utter disbelief at the man's balls, I shake my head, whisper a prayer, and do the five finger - one down five up - demonstration and off we go. Just like that.

I was dead impressed. Largest thing he'd ever ridden was a 125, and now he went round the block no probs (bit wide on the corners) on a 600 after 20 years.

Dad, you are Cool

Mind you, this is the man who, after two hours dry ski slope instruction, went on ski-ing holiday and put himself in the intermediate class. Thumbs Up

:-)hehe, very funny story.

It reminds me of the time my dad decided to have a go on my brothers moped, "oh it's easy it is only a little toy, etc etc". The poor fella came back to the house looking green. Very Happy hehe

Cheers for that, made me chuckle. Thumbs Up

Now the only thing is to NOT let him buy a bike and become a born again crash statistic. Make sure he gets some training!

i let my dad have a go of my 50cc derbi last year round our estate and i was a bit concerned!

He came back in 1 piece and told me..

"Them bikes can go can't they? Does it go any faster than 60mph?"

Shocked was my reaction to tht! our estate is covered in speed bumps and crap and not that much road to get a 50cc bike to 60!

Anyway..he's been riding bikes since he was abt 13 i think! Tht's what everyone in India do!
