Hi

I had an unsuccessful search for answers to these questions on the site, so apologise if this has already been covered somewhere before. Embarassed

If a can is stamped with 'not for road use', do you just get a fine and a fix it in 7 days, or is it points and a fine and fix it in 7 days?

I understand that for an MOT an exhaust needs to be BSAU 193a stamped and E-marked, but are plod interested in the stamp? I know that most people swap the can for the original for the MOT, but I am more interested in the stop and check that the police carry out. Do you get grief for cans without anything stamped on them at all?

I've seen the stamped BSAU tags on ebay which you can rivet to your exhaust. But am not sure whether these are more for the MOT (which it would probably fail on emissions with a not for road use race can), or whether it is more for the police checks. Your advise appreciated.

Many thanks

Deano

You don't actually need a BSA stamp anymore, BUT it can't say 'Not for road use on it' or 'Race use only'.

It now comes down to the testers discretion as to how loud the can is, remembering that they don't actually rev the bike on the test. Wink

They don't, as yet, test emmisions on a bike, but I am sure that they are due to start in the next couple of years.

Hope that helps

As far as I am aware, a non road legal can is non-endorsable : you can't get points for it, just a fine. £60 I think.

depending on what your can is made from you can file the "not for road use" out. Then use various grades of wet and dry then rubbing compound (Quick Cut) to take the scratches out. I did this on my race can and you cant tell the difference.

This will work on aluminium cans very well but if you have a Stainless steel or titanium can you could be there for a while!

My exhaust for the RD isnt stamped BSAU, but it doesn't say 'not for road use', so its alright. As others have said, its upto the MOT tester whether its too loud or not. I will be stuffing mine with loft insulation to quieten it down for the MOT. Then as soon as its passed, take the damn stuff out! Twisted Evil

what i did was make a BSAU Plate, you can then rivet it over the "not for road use" stamping.

Isn't that perverting the course of justice, which is more than a slap on the wrists you get for a race can. Confused

Tis true though.

Having a fake stamp is seen as worse than not having a stamp at all, which at the moment gets you a slap, maybe a fine, maybe a rectification doobrie.

Good to know all this. Thanks. The cans look like a brushed aluminium, so not sure polishing out is possible. The cans do have badges that haven't been riveted to them yet, so this might be the way to go.

If it's the little metal band thingy that's stamped, you can always take it off and replace it with one that hasn't been stamped. Shifty

Easy Whitetrash. As I stated earlier, I'll put the badges over it. I just appreciate the advice people are giving me, as I didn't know what my choices were! Razz

That's alright, easy to mis-interpret tone and meaning on the net. The cans are Leo Vinci's, and the badges are the same colour as the bike, so I reckon they will look the nuts! Cool

The sound is what did it for me. Don't care that its not a 180mph flying machine. Saw and heard one a few months ago on my commute into work, and the thump as it went past *sigh*, thats what did it for me. Blue Flame exhaust sound mental on these too. Roll on bank holiday weekend! Twisted Evil
