Just lost the back end on the roundabout in the rain. I managed to stick my foot down and kind of like stabalise the bike before it fell. I crapped myself. Just got in and after the adrenaline has worn off i found out i have pulled a muscle in my back. Fecking hurts.

I would have been so annoyed if i dropped it becuase my crash mushrooms are supposed to arrive tomorrow. Neutral

Agreed, a quick stamp has saved a lost front more than once.

You were lucky, and be glad a pulled muscle is the price you've had to pay, it could have been a knackered bike, or a dead you.

I can remember something similar happening to me for the very first time...

Accelerating off the roundabout, back end hits something slippy (water/diesel/dead squirrel!?) and as I was opening up the throttle I noticed what looked like my rear wheel attempting an overtake Shocked I immediately came off the gas and thankfully it jumped back to its' rightful place whilst my arse jumped around on the seat.

I immediately took a turn off the road I was on and trundled around some back streets for 5 minutes while I attepted to regain my composure!

Isn't that a good way to get a highside on a powerful bike? What is the best way to get out of situations where you've lost the back under power? Just keep a steady throttle and don't do anything and it'll sort itself out?

At the time mc I didn't even think about what was going on. In the space of a milli second I sat up, came off the throttle, thought 'What the F*ck was that!' and held on for dear life (Hardly Rossi like obviously!). If I'd have carried on throttling away the arse end of the bike would've completed its' overtake and I would've been getting 5.9 from the Russian Judge for a well executed dismount!

I can recall coming straight off the throttle and feeling the back end of the bike jumping around whilst my vice like legs gripped the tank for all they were worth (I'm pretty sure my tank capacity has significantly reduced since the incident Wink ).

As I mentioned, I was coming off the roundabout and to be fair wasn't revving the nuts off the bike, just accelerating away as normal but still my back end slid away so I just (rightly or wrongly) came to the assumption that it had hit something slippy. Maybe if I was going quicker then a high side would've been a more probable outcome.

Last time I saw my back wheel attempting an overtake the next thing I saw was the crash barrier coming towards me a lot faster than I would have liked.

We all like to think we'd be able to control it in such a situation, and I've controlled a few slides, but I was on the floor before I even knew what was going on this time.

LOL Laughing

Has happened to me a few times in the past.
Came up to a roundabout a little fast once, the gap I was aiming for miraculously vanished, and so i snatched the front brake, which caused the front end to dive sideways. One serious mother of a stamp later, and my bike was upright once again, although my foot and leg ached for about 3 hours afterwards.

Got a mention in the pub about it later on though. Very Happy

Stamped my foot down a couple of times (slippery car parks) after the back end skidded out, works well if your not traveling at any speed.

Steve.

I'm not criticising you there, just a bit curious as to what the best way is. We must all have had the back step out when we've got the power on a bit early whilst leant over on a slippery surface. I've never had the back slide without plenty of warning, and it's always been slow enough that I've had time to think about what to do, and do it. Normally backing off, standing the bike up a bit and a dap on the rear brake seem to sort it out. I have just kept on the power a few times, but it was rather more exhilarating than I wanted.

As for front slides, every time the front has slid under braking, I've binned it. I learnt from those to leave the front brake well alone in corners and on rubbish slimey roads to use it with caution.

I didn't comment on the near high-side before, but I will now... Very Happy

Just been out on my bike. Lovely and sunny when I left, roads dry and warm, about 5 miles from my house, tyres are warm and sticky... so I throw it into this roundabout, bike sticks like glue, and I take it at about 45mph. Flick it left into the exit and wind on the power... and weeeee I'm going sideways.

Instinct had me keep the power on, and ride out the slide until the bike smoothly came back in line, at which point I nailed it even harder and shot off into the distance. Thumbs Up

Was class tbh.. afterwards of course. Although you don't have time to think at the time.

So, keep the power on guys - less chance of highside.

If your back's still twingy tomorrow go see a physio, it'll be 25 quid well spent...your core muscles are whats probably pulled, but they'll be able to confirm whats up, tell you to take it easy, or whatever (plus, you may get a tasty physio feeling you up for 30 mins Wink )...it can seem like such a small thing, I've had a bad spine for ages, it sucks...a mate did his back in and was in agony for months after putting a frikkin duvet cover on and 'flicking' it...
